Tin can lamellars. That is the answer.

Lightweight, sharp, fear-inducing (if only because it scrapes through you, making you bleed while you chase survivors), you really should go construct one and wear it if the horde comes.

Who cares about being able to chase others anyway, when you can put up a good, if bloody, show?

I've got a nice helmet I can wear, military issue, and to help avoid headshots that will be a must.
If the helmet is too large you won't be able to bite effectively.

So it's a "I'm prepping to become a Zombie"-plan.

For your solid blade gloves, are you thinking of a set of Katar? Maybe as an addition you could have a glove of razor sharp claws that go over your hand as well so that you cause extra blood loss with every strike against the tasty ones even if you can't get a good grip on them at the time.  A helmet could be good, but any decent gun user could just shoot you a few times until the helmet gives way, so maybe a lightweight face shield would work since it's not overly heavy and you still have good ability to see things. you won't be feeling any pain, so other than maybe armor to reinforce joints to make them less suitable to dismemberment would be the best move. Extra neck protection to keep melee fodder from lopping your head off prematurely would be a good idea too.

Oh, and it might also help strapping flammables and explosives near the critical areas of your body. Of course, assuming if you can get close to your targets first.

Galen, of course - if its a zombie apocolypse, I know which side, statistically, I'm likely to be on, so shouldn't that be the one I prepare for?

Metal, tt does leave the face open, but it's a good point - I'll have to do some practice runs with the wife later (I'll not inform her of course - best to keep the simulation as close to practice as possible). I think making sure it's secure is the big thing - if it flops around, I could see it causing problems. Galen, that's the major problem with the face shield. I'm assuming I'll be in a crowd most of the time, would they really be wanting to waste a few shots on me and letting the others draw closer? And even alone, a few shots will be me the feet I need in a close situation. It's not a 100% thing, of course, just increasing my odds. I do like the idea of reinforcing my limbs, though... hmmm.

New Guy: I like the Lamellar idea - but I'd probably go with aluminum instead of tin. Lightweight, flexibly. I think I'll try to avoid the bleeding though - I want some durability. I'm be in for for efficiency, not theatrics. Even if it doesn't block much damage, even the appearance of it might deter fired shots for that crucial moment.

Well, if you're going for non-sharp lamellar, I guess you'd have to spend more time hammering the sharp edges of a totally torn apart sheet of aluminum from a can, so that you won't get scratched by your own set of armor.

Or make it larger than your person, maybe.

Regardless, you'd have to invest more time in making the armor if you don't want it hurting you, which might be bad if you're making it just a few hours before the apocalypse.

Well, this is supposed to be prepared in advance. Maybe this weekend!

I was just assuming I'd wrap the back in some thick cloth, honestly.

Well d'oh!

I forgot that you could always wear a thicker shirt if you're having troubles with scratches and stuff.

Right.

Sorry for that face shield idea GlyphGryph, got my target audience mixed up for a moment. A face shield probably would be a bad idea, and would also prevent you from biting anything at all so it makes it a little more difficult :P

So my buddy found 3 articles of other incidents where people are getting attacked by others -seemingly at random for no apparent reason- and getting gnawed on and partially eaten. I can't find said articles since they were on his phone's version of the news and I've got no idea how to find most of them. I could only find this one... But still. I'm getting kindof alarmed. One in Massachusetts, one in Florida, one in Oregon... Dear god.

Near Toady's house, wherever that may be.  Bring picks and axes.  Those will be very useful weapons.

I'm not sure if these things actually existed a few years before, and we only got aware of that just recently, or if this whole biting-other-people gig is really a recent development.

We better pray it's very recent, or else there may be a larger number of these psychotic man eaters out there.

That's the part that scares me too. I don't typically run across articles like this at all, and all of these coming out of the woodwork is a bit alarming considering the timeframe [between now and December] we're working with if there is a zombiecrazombies outbreak. That's not very much time to save the planet from the menace. We're doomed.
