Eerie Glowing Pits
« on: May 27, 2012, 01:33:15 pm »

Hello again, Bay12 community. I was wondering about something in Adventure mode, concerning the Eerie pits of the underworld. What happens if you jump in them? Or, can you even jump in them? I am a bit afraid of testing this on my own, due to some bad experiences with caves. Anyone have an answer?

Death is the standard answer to things we are unsure of.

Well, that also does a pretty good job of summing up DF. What I was looking for was a CAUSE of death, such as

You fell into a Pit!
or
Demon chow!

"You fell into a deep chasm"
Well, I should've expected that. Thanks!

Instant death and damnation. Hit 'ESC' to never continue.

Throw pebbles in, to hear how deep it is. Bonus point if the RNG populated the pit with flaming winged humanoids, and you named your adventurer Fool of a Took.

Falling into an eerie glowing pit is exactly the same as falling into a Chasm, and you can easily try that out in Arena mode.

P.S. If you don't get this note, let me know and I'll write you another.
It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.

am i the only one here who has done this!?!?!?!
if you jump into a eerie glowing pit you simply get the message "you fell into a deep chasm" or something and the game is over, its like deleting your character, there is no other Z level to go to after you fall down to the bottom

Done it accidentally in fort mode, when I breached Hell and a few soldiers dodged down the candy shaft and then kept dodging till they fell into the pit.

I jumped in a chasm in the arena, I got a game over and had to press escape then go back to the game to be able to press ctl-a.  I proceeded to drop 99 Gigan Toads in the chasm.  For a moment they show up as something on a lower level.

Maybe that the dwarves never died and everyone is just shunning them.

There isn't a chasm in the vanilla arena (or at least not in 34.07), though I assume you could probably mod one in.
