A New Zero
« on: May 27, 2012, 01:27:01 pm »

From the main website:
Quote
A New Zero is a multiplayer vehicle simulation inspired by Red Baron, Tie Fighter, Mechwarrior 2, Joust, and some other stuff. It is currently in open beta.

In A New Zero players control one of many boats and planes. You launch these vehicles from islands you control. The goal is simple, make your enemy lose control over its island(s). In order to reach this goal, you need to trade, build, research, and destroy. It has a simple day/night cycle, and night is pitch black dark, you cannot fly or attack, and it gives you time to regroup. Anyone trying to respawn at night must wait until dawn. Graphics are preternaturally generated, and the whole game is actually under 1Mb in size.

I currently have a server set up on dedicated mode, and it will be 24/7 as long as no unfortunate accidents occur. The playerbase is extremely small currently, partially due to the fact that the creator hasn't update the game in a long time. The next update will have tanks and ground based combat as well as aerial and naval combat. It's an extremely fun game.

I think nobody is online, and I have no idea how to play myself anyway but I'll give it a go. Are you playing yourself?

I've noticed this in the dark depths of the internet a few times. Never tried it though since I just assumed there wasn't anyone playing it, and I could never find any spec requirements. If some more people show interest, and its clear there's going to actually be people playing, I might check it out and see if my outdated pc can handle it.

The fact that I missed this topic is kinda weird...

...

Anyways, after David from Wolfire played it during the Mojam or whatever it was it had a ton of people playing, but the players have left because, well, not many people playng consistently enough. Plus netcode could be better...

Alex has been working on a sort of major overhaul for the game actually, look at his blog and twitter and stuff to see. From what I understand he's mostly been trying to implement physics based movement to human-like characters, so they will physically interact with object simply by touching them. This gives the impression of controlling an actual character as opposed to a camera floating in the air. Some people might get motion sick from it, maybe??? EDIT:

I have a bunch of footage for a video on physics-based walking, I've been too busy trying to get it to work to make a video though.

The fact that their forums are broken doesn't help.

The game is mostly procedurally generated. Those things can take some serious processing powet to work.

Gonna try it anyway.

0 servers found. Heck yeah.

The server was down due to my dad pulling the network cable to use it for another machine  ::) it'll be back up in a few minutes.

I've been playing this game for a few weeks now, Really fun and I've gotten pretty skilled with the planes. There was this one server that was up for about a week and I had some good games on there.

I  suggest we start up a B12 server and mess around a bit, doing nothing in special and just testing stuff (aka, not playing to win)
Because this seems quite intresting :D

FAKEEDIDT:
I see we already have a server.
Let the  battul begin!

EDIT:
Btw, you may not want to link directly to the download, for suspicousness reasons.

EDIT2:
I love how it doesnt ask for any additional instals, like desktop shortcut or start menu shortcut.
Thats just awesome :D

It's known as the Oppai-Kaiju effect. The islands of Japan generate a sort anti-gravity field, which allows breasts to behave as if in microgravity. It's also what allows Godzilla and friends to become 50 stories tall, and lets ninjas run up the side of a skyscraper.

Also when I try to connect, it takes several minutes to synchronize, and then I can't actually move the mouse to select a vehicle.  So... seems rather dead project to me?

Not dead project, just dead in the playability of MP. Needs more servers, I'll make one if needed. I know my computer can run it at least somewhat stabily from before.

I can't figure out how to fly a plane and none of the players are helpful.  I have no idea what I'm doing and nothing to help me figure out how to do it :|
