Seems as though an update was pushed out.

Link to new download

It has gotten rid of all the flight mechanics and boats. Now you are a tank, in a dessert, and your goal is to blow up the enemies 5 bases at the opposite end. I REALLY hope he plans to add features back. I'll update the first post.

EDIT:... that blog post is REALLY old. Maybe my server is down for some other reason other than incompatibilities with a potential new update?

EDIT2: Nevermind, the server is working again. Odd. Anyway, the link is for a .80 Armor Test, which may give you a edge over everyone else when he finally pushes the .81 update.

Huh? No. That was a test he released a while ago to showcase land vehicles and the new destructible buildings.

So what's going on?  Is there an update now, or was that an old teaser release?  What are we running?

Old teaser, we are still running .78

EDIT: Adding a new section to the OP: How money works. I'm gonna add it here as well.

Money

Money can be acquired one of 2 ways. The first way, is trading. You buy goods at one island and sell them at another island. If you bought 8 sets of goods at $4 each, and sell them for $15 each, you make $88. Awesome right? There's more though. Have you noticed how goods seem to disappear from an island? This is because the island sells the goods! When an island sells goods, it goes into a sort of money "stockpile" for your team. Every 2 seconds you receive a sort of paycheck from this stockpile. Those 8 sets of goods you sold to the island are converted into an additional $120 that is dispersed through your team, so you didn't just make $88, you made more for yourself and are helping your team out! This also means that when you aren't trading at all, and nobody is trading, goods are being sold from each island you control for $4 each. If you control 1 island, $4 goes into the stockpile, 2 islands $8, 3 islands $12, 4 islands $16. The more islands you control, the more money you make for your team. The more you trade, the more money you make for yourself AND for your team. You can also cut off your enemies money supply and make it almost impossible for them to continue. If you kill all cargo planes/boats and kill their factories, they can't trade goods to make money, and they cant make goods to trade for money or for their islands to sell to make money.

TL:DR Islands make your team money by selling goods. Trading doesn't just help yourself, but it helps your team as well. Take out all factories and cargo planes/boats and you cut off the other teams money supply.

Should really emphasize there: You make money by owning mines and factories, even if you don't use a cargo vehicle, the island will passively make more money by selling its overstock.  You can increase the money flow by putting non-native goods on the island.

All stocks on islands slowly lower, because the "city" will buy cargo to represent the civilian sector being active.  You can't destroy a city, but you can destroy the commerce around the city and strangle your enemy's cash flow.

Does anyone want me to make a bomber guide, complete with pictures, showing how to bomb and not get hit by AAA?

I might be able to do a video on how I do bombing runs, but I'd need good capture software.

I'll make a quick guide showing a few tips, and if you make a video capture I'll put that in the OP instead.

Mono14 if you'll assist me with some screenshots, I can show my slight change on how I takeoff.  Namely, I can't see myself rising, so I'll need someone to capture my angle of climb.  In my research, I've found some freehand angles of climb that work with boost best.  If you climb too steep you lose speed fast.  Too shallow and you don't climb much.

Then I'll look into getting some free screen capture software.  If we could get 2-3 people to do screen capture, along with me, then we could get a pilot's eye view as well as surface view of what a bombing run looks like.

I fiddle with my fuel as well, so my specific style uses a bit more skill.  I often have to glide my way to base on the final bits because I run out of fuel 20 feet away from the runway and 50 feet up - and bombers don't glide very well at all.

It's also worth noting that bombing a mine or AAA is more difficult.  If you hit the top of a mine (those pyramids) you don't even expose the core.  AAA seems to be tougher or something too, you need a fairly direct hit to destroy it.

I joined yesterday, and some really nice folks helped me out with this. Thank you, to whoever that was :) I suggest anyone else can do the same thing. Ask for help :)

Turns out the game is pretty cool :)

PREPARE FOR PLANE JOUSTING!

I have received a beta code for Planetside 2.  I already have a code.  So this one is going to someone else.  The method shall be plane jousting.  Two pilots go at each other, no weapons.  Only collision kills.  Whoever wins and/or makes the most amazing aerial display wins!
