Did you get the first one or second one? Either way, I think there's a way to get a nicer resolution, by pressing "r" or somesuch. Perhaps in the options?
The first. Ill give that a shot tonight, thatd be nice.

So, I have the Original Dungeon Keeper disk, and I'm trying to get it running. I have Windows 7 64 bit, any help?

So I went looking to see if I could find a windows compatible version of DK(that works with deeper dungeon expansion) and I stumbled on Dungeons on Amazon for $0.59. That is for the  physical box and disk, lol. http://www.amazon.com/Dungeons-Pc/dp/B004BJ4HDC/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1360844947&sr=8-5&keywords=dungeon+keeper

Did you try using compatability mode? If that doesn't work, DOSbox will. I don't know exactly how to set it up, but there should be 100+ step to step guides online.

I've heard mixed reviews about dungeons, but for 59 cents.... how can you go wrong? I'm most excited about impire being released today, hoping it's good/I can scrape together the cash for it.

Not to divert away from the topic too far, but......Yes Impire is good but only if you don't expect it to be DK. I have only played the first 3 "levels" but am impressed with just about everything. PS, I hated Dungeons.

Ah, I see, you were laughing at the fact that Dungeons was 59 cents for the boxed copy, get it. I was trying to be nice and not outright say it's bad without firsthand experience.

Now, sort of on topic, the major toss up. Should I play Imprie before I get too in to dungeon keeper? Then be blown away by how amazing Dungeon Keeper is? I'm thinking this might be best, even if just so that I don't get dissapointed by it by trying to compare after playing both close together.

Mmmmyes.  Dungeon Keeper Ami is the only Dungeon Keeper-based fanfic worth reading.  Every other work I've ever seen has the protagonist going full-bore Look At Me, I'm Powerful and Eeevil.  And it turns to crap very quickly.

If you'll excuse me going a leeetle bit further off-topic, there's an Overlord fanfic that's shaping up to be quite the ride.  (Overlord's almost Dungeon Keeper, right?)  Check out Overlady, a fusion of Overlord and Familiar of Zero.  [Edit:] Also can be found on the Pit of Voles.

Back on topic, Dungeon Keeper 1 and 2 under Vista/W7.  The standard checklist for getting an old game running includes disabling visual themes it, setting a compatibility mode on it, adding the game to the exception list for DEP (data execution prevention), disabling hardware acceleration globally, and running the game as administrator.

Finally, if your Windows install is 64-bit and the game won't even start, it may be a 16-bit game which is not supported under Win64, so you will need to run it in a virtual machine under a 32-bit Windows install.

Alternately, I just ran across an active project, KeeperFX, attempting to rewrite parts of the DK1 executable to be more friendly to modern Windows.  Give it a shot.

Given the humor I'd think that is how all of them should start.

Never played a Dungeon Keeper game in my life. Really think I should get on top of that at some point.

Indeed you should, it's a classic.  I would personally go so far as to say the buggy, rushed mess of the second one is also a classic, but I'm just weird like that.  And I played the second one before the first, so didn't have any dreams get squashed.  They both have their plusses and minuses, with several heapings of charm for both.

They shouldn't be too hard to get hold of, even though the developers are now R.I.P. (Raging In Poverty).

I need to replay DK at some point. Replayed 2 a while back, which was fun. Only thing I know for sure that I preferred from the original is the narration. It was hilarious, and while DK2 had some good moments they just weren't as memorable.

Well...except for the random comments he'd make while you're playing. Those are awesome.
