Hi guys, this is probably a really stupid problem, but I'm not really tech savvy. I was hoping to play combat mission battle for normandy, but my laptop says that I need to update my opengl drivers. According to what I have seen on their forum, they suggest a driver update, but I have had a great deal of trouble finding such an update. I have tried steam's update system, but it doesn't seem to work for me. I have a Pavilion dv7-6143cl Entertainment PC laptop from hp, and dxdiag tells me that I have an ATI graphics card (it says radeon on the laptop) of the Mobile Intel(R) HD Graphics variety. Although, strangely enough, it has switchable graphics (2 built in graphics cards). If anyone could help link me to the right place that would be amazing, and I apologize in advance if I have left out some very important piece of information. Thanks!

Could be that the game you're trying to run is trying to run on the Intel graphics card, which is the integrated card. With Nvidia, I know there is a way to make it use the Nvidia card.

Anyway, you have an ATI Radeon card, so if you can get us the model for that card, we can link the driver. The Intel card is ust so that your computer is more energy efficient.

Where should I look for the model of that card?

On the laptop, it says ATI Radeon? Any numbers after that?

Sounds like the switchable graphics is causing the problems as AMD never figured out how to make that work compared to Nvidia's Optimus. As for drivers you either hope that HP has updated drivers on their website or look for a modded Catalyst installer.

You may need to update the bios of the computer. There was a bios update that was released that will allow you to put the computer into "fixed" graphics card mode in the bios, so that switchable graphics doesn't cause you headaches. I apologize for being so brief, but I have to get ready for work! I'll do my best to fill you in more later.

from what it sounds like you might not get a chance to disable that. (laptop makers are notorious for making bios virtually useless to customers)

You will have to update Catalyst then.

kinda sucks as you aren't really disabling switching but you can tell catalyst to what graphics solution to run.

I have a "configure switchable graphics" button on my computer that lets me choose which card to use for each program, so I have 2 questions;
1) should I use the lower quality for this program and if so, why?
and
2) if so, is there some way to use the higher quality, because I would like to play this game on a higher graphics setting
