That's a kobold, not a goblin.

Maces suck, deal with it. Once I had an adventurer maceman who together with human lasher went kilka creature of the night. Lasher got knocked down and after that I spent about one hour of real time, putting headshots to the creature, always jamming skull and reaching brain. I also masacrated rest of its body. Hero was totally exausted and became High Master Macelord. It was still alive. Then Lasher woke up and instakilled the thing with his whip.

What I want to know is if he took the war hammer with him when he left the map?

in my last fortress My manager was a vampire, he was the last dwarf standing and a goblin kicked his ass with a silver whip...he killed about 3 of them but they surrounded him. I have been trying to reclaim that fort to no avail.

That should be a new type of project, making a rug design in dwarf fortress (With accurate coloring)

I've never seen something surviving "tearing the brain" in DF
Make several thousand adventurers. One of those will nearly die horribly, and escape with a broken brain before being pecked to death by undead ravens.

Well, I also noticed that the message was "tears the nervous tissue" which will just be a major injury.

"tearing apart the nervous tissue" would be an instant paralysis.
What I don't know is if anything but a brain can be torn apart?  I'm just guessing.

Did nobody have the idea that the "tearing the brain" message is from a different goblin thief?

Because the mace dwarf is using a hammer, it's probable that they didn't do enough damage to actually kill the thief. Then again, I've never seen someone survive their skull being crushed in and then having their spine torn apart. How could they walk?

There was an adventurer who landed on his head after falling from a cliff, severing his spine whilst surviving a pretty nasty head injury. It also allowed him to ignore pain before crippling him after a few ticks... So I assume it takes them a while to realize they're supposed to be paraplegic before they fall :d

Just gonna point out that the mace was never removed.  The goblin's there with a whole blunt instrument stuck in its head, probably lodged in the brain.

This is a side-effect of dwarven animal training (hit animal with hammer until it forgets that it hates you, then lovingly cuddle it).
