Thanks :) Yes, dwarf fortress is not a game meant to be played with bright florescent, cheery, colours, unless ironically perhaps.

Wait...
You mean I arent supposed to make everything out of extremely bright microcline?

Great fan art though. The dude filling out paperwork is a nice touch.

the knights, or shall we say militia dwarves, look like one of those high-detailed RPG knights or those in Warband

Could you please tell me what program did you use?
(I don't need the highly detailed graphics, just the, let's say...sketch/base of the picture)

I used good old photoshop. I also have a wacom tablet that I use which helps a lot.  Warband as in mount and blade warband?

Not exactly with those armor because most have other pieces of armor on top which varies in color
anyway, I've looked into the other pictures and found myself wanting more
especially the elves (my favorite fictional creatures are dwarves but still like the elves...not in DF though)
