You spin me around like a record...
« on: May 25, 2012, 08:10:15 am »

I've got a dwarf in my entry level area that is carrying a bin.  He is literally spinning around in a circle.  How would I cancel any action he is doing to see if that frees him up?

Side note: He is not boxed in.  There is an opening to the outside and the stairways down into the fortress on either side of him.

That's happened to me too a few times. Oddly enough he just gets tired and goes on his merry way eventually. I don't think this has happened before .10 though

I'd try magma.

Yes, I don't recall seeing this before the new version.

That should be a new type of project, making a rug design in dwarf fortress (With accurate coloring)

It probably has to do with the new "get bin, put items in bin, bring bin back" logic for dorfs to go collect things now.  Although I wasn't able to figure out exactly how to reproduce or how to get them to stop, except when they get tired or hungry or thirsty enough, they drop the bin and some other dorf comes along and completes the job.

Interesting note - I had a couple more dorfs in my current for doing this so I tried to forbid the bin.  It crashed DF.  I haven't seen it again since after the crash so I can't try to reproduce the crash.  See if forbidding the bin causes a crash.

I don't understand, though that is about right with anything DF related.
I just hope he dies the same death that all dwarfs deserve: liver disease.

I've seen this a couple of times. Forbidding the bin (even after it's been dropped because the carrier got dehydrated) crashes the game. Dumping the bin does nothing. From what I've seen, it's caused when a bin assigned to a stockpile is removed to fill with items and the stockpile is filled whilst it's away (I've always seen numbered bins, and the corresponding stockpile full). Clearing the stockpile by dumping doesn't seem to work until a new dwarf picks up the bin, and creating a new stockpile doesn't seem to work either. Deleting the corresponding stockpile seems to work, or alteast allows a hungry dwarf to instantly drop the bin. This all needs more testing because I only had a couple of bins to test this with, but it seems to work.
