Roads and magma

Will a road made of platinum or aluminum as ores or as metals survive a magma bath?

Platinum will. Aluminium will deconstruct and melt pathetically.

Huh. I had checked the site. Thought I remembered that neither one was magma safe as is, but was wondering if roads changed anything.

Thanks. Time to go make that platinum road.

Roads are structures, similar to workshops and bridges and furniture.  An aluminum floor would be safe, but a road would now.

Hrm. So it turns out I need something like 600 platinum bars in order to finish the road I want to finish. In other words, I'd need to continue trading for approximately 50 more years to have enough, given that I can get 4 more bars and 4 native platinum stones every time.

Didn't expect it would take that long to make this road. Damn.

If your civ has access to platinum though, you could just order some flasks, toys and other crap made of platinum and melt those. Not that it'd make it a lot faster but still.

It's faster than it used to be, at least you get 4x per ore now.

Try to use something... less expensive.  Like maybe bauxite (many embark sites have it)

The issue isn't the cost, it's the intake.  You can only get so much from each caravan.  That's why I prefer alloys myself.  Rose gold, sterling silver, etc.  Anything that takes a precious metal and cuts it with a less expensive thing like copper will make many more bars.  Electrum is a good high-cost metal as well.

But the whole point was to make it out of the most expensive non-cotton candy item I could. I can easily afford to buy out the whole caravan every time.

As a note, I'm getting 8 per year by buying the ore and the bars. Also, does the road have to be pure magma-safe or can it be mixed, with the majority being magma-safe?

The asymmetric nature of your "signature" really irritates me.

Heh. I think you're the first person in years to take note of that fact. I've been waiting.

Don't forget to order Native Platinum Blocks.

I think it takes the properties of what it is named after, but I'm not certain.

I think it'll fall apart once at least one of the building blocks starts to melt.

I have been - I was originally buying all of the expensive moodable items, and I'm still doing it even though all my dwarves have mooded (20-dwarf fort ftw), but it doesn't seem possible to turn those into platinum bars. Or are you suggesting making the road out of the mix

Hrm. I guess I'll have to check this. For SCIENCE!
