I like that because I had no intention of killing my people. As I've said before, I've seen a handful of people more careful with the lives of their subjects in this forum. There will probably be accidents, and there will be deaths due to sieges and titans and forgotten beasts, but I'll make sure they are buried properly. And slabs for them as well. I like having memorial gardens.

might as well call it necropolis instead of pyramids then. The pyramids were usually (in some locations at least) the finishing touch to a 'city of the dead' with tombs, mastaba and such commisioned by rich and influential people who wished to be buried close to greatness. It seems your preference is perfectly suited for a pretty authentic setting.

you can decide who get's what kind of burial on merit. Yes he was a legendary axelord, but he got there by training, not killing, small tomb. The mason who worked non stop to provide the blocks for all the construction will be well known and wealthy, larger tomb. Militia captain with a long kill list? mastaba, two stories maybe. Mayor for the past 10 years with good mandates, small pyramid. etc. whatever you prefer. I might just start a code or something like that in my next fort for this.

Historians say the Egyptian pyramids actually had a gold-plated tip, so don't forget to include that.

The kings/pharaohs were buried in the valley of the kings. The only mummies found inside the pyramids were the ones placed there several hundreds of years later when the culture went through a "mummify everyone and stick them in the pyramids" phase.

Make sure the embark has a crapton of limestone to make it authentic.  Have ramps all around the outer surfaces and make the very tip of it out of electrum.

For the obelisks, would a cross-shaped pillar encompassing a 3x3 area work? The cap could just be one 1x1 wall at the top surrounded by 4 ramps.

Deconstruct it from the bottom? Or one z-level at a time?
Personally I would have built a sort of 'core scaffolding' that isnt connected to and thus not supported by the construction your are building. In those places where you actually have to reach the construction from the scaffold, build some additional bridges/floors.
As soon as you're done and dont need the scaffolding anymore, deconstruct the connecting pieces, leave the scaffolding and destroy the supports holding the scructure (you did build a few supports that hold the whole damn thing and connected them to a lever, didnt you?). What better way for a finishing touch for a monument than a big bang from an exploding scaffolding.

Thanks but it's an obelisk, couldn't put the stairs inside since this is a pretty small one ( but for the larger ones, sure if I find a way ).  Next time I'll make sure I can deconstruct the bottom to cause a cave in of sorts. ( This one was right above the temporary fort's dining hall, didn't want to take risks )

Also being the first game since I updated to new version ( was playing .07, jumped to .10 ) I didn't really know how much damage it could cause. At least I had the foresight to prepare a small hospital to treat those broken ribs.

If Overseer stops crashing, screenshots to follow.

The entrance to the food processing ( and temporary housing ) facility and the first obelisk to commemorate digging of the first new rooms in the grand pyramid area. The obelisk looks silly in Overseer, but stonesense gets it right. I'll start making the tips longer on the later ones, I consider this the first effort of my naga architects so it'll stay this way.

Oh, you can even see the places we've channeled to grow surface crops.

Kind of reminds me of a granary of sorts. A large grain silo, if you will, especially with that entrance in front. Looks really nice. Love the desert theme you got going there. I hope your constructions get ever greater from henceforth. May your goblins be slaughtered and ale stockpiles bountiful.

Mine is an underground city that has temples and pyramids on the surface. On other news, we carved out the new living area just as we got a 22 person migrant wave. Started on the new masonry area and made a few newscales miners to find magma. Hopefully we'll be able to pump it up to a reasonable level to start smelting operations. Beat back a ferric elf attack, good thing we bought a few swords from the caravan.

While I do not know you, I wish to disagree. This is indeed within the realm of things you can do. (Look at Rimamused for a comparison. I would agree if you said Rim was a stupid/impossible project. Hell, I'll agree if you never say it. But the Itza is easily something you can borrow from and complete.)

Oh, sure, it takes a bit of OCD. You are playing DF so either you have, or will soon develop, OCD and therefore there is no issue apart from time-span. I will see you finish these pyramids, someday. Also, the two should give you an idea of how two programs render slopes.

The mention of pumping and magma makes me happy.

I forget if I mentioned it in the other threads, (I don't think so,) custom stockpiles right above/below/surrounding the block makers is helpful. You likely know that, but sometimes the answer to "Is it plugged in?" is a face-palm and not "Yes".
