I actually once forgot that I unplugged my router the previous night and when I woke up had no internet connection. I called the tech support, and the nice lady asked me if I had the router plugged in.

Sigh.

I ragequit after some war elephants attacked.I guess I didn't notice their civ being close, because I have barely 35 nagas and about 150k in wealth. And not much exported at all. And I have no defenses whatsoever other than retired war heroes in iron armor. Thanks to the never ending wars in worldgen at least most of the migrants have rudimentary military skills, so maybe we won't lose the fort. I'll find out later when I calm down and load the save and unpause :P

On the building side of things, I've found the magma sea some 50 levels below the surface and started planning the one time only magma pump system. I'll fill a small cistern and close and wall off and hopefully forget about the whole thing. I need my riverside to be clean for the other projects and can't have so many waterwheels. I've paved floors around the first pyramid to mark the construction zone, I'll start laying the blocks for the first level and then close off the curtain wall and transfer all traffic underground. I can't have those idiot kangaroos interrupting everything anymore.

That is, if we survive this. Well I know we will probably barely survive if I conscript everyone and tell them to swamp the elephants, although the losses could very well cripple our future defense efforts. 12 War elephants versus 35 nagas? We'll see I guess.

This was actually a mathematical construct in response to a challenge posted in the forum, but it has the essentials of a pyramid.  It did not require scaffolding because the walls were stepped and then ramps were constructed to make it smooth.  Dwarves could walk over the entire surface at any time durng the construction.  A stairwell up the middle accessed floors within the pyramid(s).

Oooh, that's mighty nice. And yes, it's useful that they can walk over the surface as they please, I love that. My first one still has about 30 levels to go, but it's alright, while they work I prepare the plans for the sun temple.

Yeah, thanks for the scaffolding idea. I wonder how many people will die from deconstructing the scaffolding on top of their heads. And yeah, glass is a big bonus. Only if I can be bothered to pump magma ( which I dislike because of fps reasons )

That just adds to the authenticity of using slaves ( unskilled migrants you don't need ) to complete the project :3. Make a grave vault inside it for all your workers. Or even a mastaba ( clay/ mud brick tomb complex ) if you want another project.
common misconception. The ancient egyptians did not have slaves. There are simply no records of it ever happening. In fact, the workers who built the pyramids were even allowed to be buried within the shadow of said pyramid, a great honor that no slave would ever receive.

Gah damn the items falling thing, removing the scaffolding is hurting my guys =/

Build a floor 1-2 z lvls above your scaffolding. Build a support holding floors over those floors. Link that support, and pull. The floors'll smash into all of the scaffolding, deconstructing all of them and leaving no Dwarf injured (as long as they stay out of the blast).

Uh very smart, gotta remember that. You dont have to worry about still having supported parts in your scaffolding this way.
It's little tricks like these that make big constructions so much easier, thank you.

Wow that is actually a great tip indeed. I need to study for the finals, but the main pyramid is almost complete and this new method is going to help a lot with the temples.

Erm, I haven't read pages 2 or 3 yet, but glass is a good idea. Just use minecarts or somesuch to dump sandbags down to the magma sea (ideally not into the magma sea), then work it down there, then have haulers haul the stuff back up. Or use minecarts, rollers, and lots of windmills if you're feeling dwarfy.

Make sure the embark has a crapton of limestone to make it authentic.  Have ramps all around the outer surfaces and make the very tip of it out of electrum.
....I see what you did there, fellow Terry Pratchett reader.

Wasn't invented by TP. They actually did that. Also in gold.
