Vermin created using reactions are broken because the game doesn't actually set the caste on the resulting items - they get a caste of -1 which doesn't actually correspond to anything at all. I first discovered this in version 0.31.25 (and reported it here on the tracker) and it doesn't appear to have been fixed yet.

Ah, excellent! Well, then I'll stop chasing that ghost. That just leaves the medical stuff, as everything else is vermin based. Any ideas on how to get sentient corpses in the medical reactions? I think I'm okay altering the ethics tags - in this particular effort I don't think it'll matter.
