Vampire hunt, gotta-kill-em-all

I've been doing a bit of reading on a town in my current world called Bulwarkblown. It came to my attention due to the high incident of vampire related deaths in the town over about 350 years of it's history. How many? 80,000 vamp kills. They're not all in Bulwarkblown right now (there's one in Bulwarkblown, four in Tamewheel and one in Reveredwing), but they're all close by. I guess a 450 year world gen really gives them some time to rack up the death count. I'm pretty sure the first vamps moved in around the year 100.

The vamps are:

Rosmic Swelterthroats, a human, in Tamewheel, with 17,803 kills.
Nocam Musichold, a human, in Tamewheel, with 15,872 kills.
Etani Pocketwastes, a cave fish woman, in Tamewheel, with 14,552 kills.
Bon Wetmurders, a olm woman, in Tamewheel, with 13,089 kills.
Rombu Gladnessvalley, an olm man, in Reveredwing, with 12,452 kills.
Tosid Charcoalattics, a dwarf, in Bulwarkblown, with 12,173 kills.

They've all lived in Bulwarkblown at some time, but it looks like Tamedwheel is now vamp central. My question is, do these massive kill counts translate into in-game skills? Will I be able to find these vampires and shove bits of metal into them? Will they even be kill-able with those sorts of figures backing them up?

Because, I'd really like an adventurer to find these mass murdering buggers and wipe them out. I can imagine that there should be a bit of a reputation to be had by killing people that managed to kill off entire armies worth of people of the years. I'll post it up on DFFD (the save is untouched, new world) tomorrow if other people want a go at tracking them down. To Tamewheel and glory!

I'm afraid you might be in for a bit of an anti-climax. All the vamp kills are of sleeping people (they're also all abstract, un-named 'humans'. I think.) so they don't translate into skills. Vanilla vampires are a bit tougher than the average peasant, but not so much that they won't get killed by the six fish cleaners in the same house as them once you call them out. Vamps that are currently scouts, beast hunters or wanderers will have soldier weapons and armor and may put up more of a fight.

Still, it's good to do good. Also, killing that dwarf will prevent him from arriving as a migrant if you start a fort in that world later.

What's the easiest way to find vampkill totals? I'm looking with Legends viewer at a world 1050 years old, total living population 1.2 million as of my first adventurer's retirement. Death by cause statistics don't distinguish vampire murders, but they only count historical figures anyway. There were 5848 total profanements, but no indication what ratio of curses were vampire or werewolf, and 8277 'Did Interaction' but again this doesn't distinguish which of those passed on which curses.

But other interesting facts: 37 out of 37 Bronze Collosi have all been killed before worldgen finished. 12 out of 64 Rocs are still alive; I've never gotten to fight one of those. 9 out of 11 demons who escaped the underworld were slain and the only two survivors managed to impersonate gods. There are 24 slabs in the world, but only 195 have learned necromancy.

It took a fair bit of reading for just that one town. Thankfully my gods are a bit curse-happy. The easiest way is to scroll past all the titans and stuff in historical characters screen and just look for people with no death date. Then find out what town they lived in. Then look at the sites section. Then quickly skim through it to see if anything stands out (anything different from "the human" or "the dwarf" really). Then go back to historical figures and filter search. Then check that vamps kill count.

Then you probably should stop your eyes bleeding and go onto the next one.

With a 1050 year history you'll probably have vamps that make Rambo look like a pacifist.

On the skills side of things, I think some of them were employed for pretty extended periods of time in useless jobs. Hopefully Tostig made it to Legendary +5 seige operator or something........

I wouldn't say that is 100%. It's possible to find vamps outside normal town areas. Found one that was a "boss" in a castle dungeon, the head of the local criminal organization. Didn't even realize he was a vampire until I looked him up in Legends after he killed me. He was most assuredely dangerous.

I'll assume that all these guys are skilled and evil and therefore worthy of a spear to the head.

I'll have a go at tracking them down after work and put the save on DFFD for anyone else to have a go.

Once I've found them, it'd probably be better to stealth-kill them at night wouldn't it? I don't want to save the inhabitants of a town from vampires only to have to butcher them all because they turned on me. Well, I guess I could do both.......

No, it wouldn't. Vampires don't sleep anyway, and if they've infiltrated any civilization site it's best to accuse them in front of everyone, and everyone will turn on them, potentially doing your work for you. If you attack them without confronting them, you only piss off the whole civ.

If they're in a lair or sewer, killing them anytime is fine, with or without stealth.

Legends Viewer is a pretty handy utility for searching legends mode. And vamps like positions of power, so check all the leaders first :p

If you're wanting to vamp out yourself, use a slashing weapon and collect from the pool of blood that appears on the floor. Drink at your leisure :p I did that with a vamp and snuck in to steal a book from a necro tower when I started this adventurer. Once I was sure I was as high as I could be in the necessary attributes, I drank and read :)

It's very useful, but a maximum size world with 1050 years of history makes a 2.44GB xml, so it's a pain-in-the-ass to load and keep running, and every time I update I need to defrag my HD.

Thats true, it is huge. It takes several minutes to generate the xml, and then it takes like 5-10 minutes to import into the utility a large 1050. Pocket 10K world is the same :p

On this note, be careful.  I thought this would happen and was instead hopelessly surrounded by about 3 dozen cultists.  They killed me, and whenever I revisited that place it would be full of cultists getting into fights with dogs and random citizens.  It took a long time and lots of failed adventurers to actually bring the vampire down.

So... yeah, be careful of cults when fighting a really old and well established vampire.

I think it requires a regen, though I'm not sure. Vamps are a sh**-ton tougher, though.
