Super wide river
« on: May 22, 2012, 07:00:46 pm »

I don't really know what to make of this.  I just genned my first world under the new update, embarked on a river, only to discover it's really really wide.  I know this isn't particularly earth-shattering, but I've just never seen one quite like this...

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Has anyone encountered a river this wide before?

Moon river, wider than a mile...
It does seem unusually wide, and it also seems strange that theres ramps on only one side of it. Is your embark site near any mountain chains? If so, this could be the start of a river that later branches out to more reasonable sizes.

The nearest mountain range is quite far from the embark.  Pretty much just flat lands all around.  Also, I noticed the one-side ramps as well.  Peculiar.

That's a normal "major river" - you can spot them on the world map when you're embarking, they appear much wider than the regular rivers, and when you have one in your embark selection area it'll say "Major River: The Strangling Silence" or whatever to the right (if you're on the screen that lists the biomes and minerals and such). They actually tend to be in lower elevation flatlands far from mountains, where several smaller rivers merge together before draining to the ocean, just like real life.

Edit: But having ramps only on one side is weird, that part looks like a bug.

Only one thing to do with a river like that.  Drain it down into the caverns to wash out the local denizens.
