Combat Symbols
« on: May 22, 2012, 06:50:07 am »

It may have been answered before on a different forum but i couldn't find it, what so the symbols mean next to the fighting menu

Example: Head.....Easy strike...Fairly solid...... + / - -

Also may seem like a dumb question whats better? easy or easier?

Colors go from blue to red in terms of ease.

It's not that simple an answer; the symbols don't necessarily match the descriptions. I assume it's some sort of modifier to accuracy damage for that round. I do know that the ! symbols show opportunity attacks that are more likely to hit and/or crit for your skill level, though of course the more skill you have the more you can take advantage of them. I think the AI does a lot of these, so does your adventurer if you attack by moving into the enemy rather than targeting.

These are simple hits. These have a higher chance of inflicting more damage and actually hitting their target.
These are very easy hits. A one-down from simple hits.
Easy hits. One down from very easy hits.
Average.
E.t.c.
Very hard/impossible hits, that 'barely graze' or some such.

Do note that this all relative to your skill, in comparison to your target's skill. With a decent difference between yours and your opponent's skills, you can achieve impossible hits, despite the obvious difficulty.

Blue !'s notwithstanding, why would easy hits with solid blows have a red neg beside them at times, and tricky to difficult hits have green positives?

It would probably be in relation to the fighters' bodies, with an Easy Strike, Can only graze meaning something like if you were to attack, it'd land but probably won't do much due to where you're attacking from, while the inverse, Impossible Strike, Very Solid meaning you'd be nigh certain to miss, but a hit woul be punishing, or at least cause heavy bruising or break something.

Oforfucksake...folks: Those descriptive elements? Fucking self-explanatory. Look to the right of that and you'll see a column of symbols. That is what this thread is asking about; combat symbols.

Ah, but 90% of everything we say are just variations of the same thing, that gradually lead to the edge of a cliff - before deviating into answers not originally asked! Increases the collective hive mind knowledge pool.
Science and stuff.

To paraphrase, one on the left, chance to hit in relation to your skill, one on the right affects how much damage you do in relation to your strength, weapon strength and other such variables. The symbols mean pretty much the same as the colour co-ordination.

Repeating yourself again while totally missing the question makes it pretty impossible to chill. If you're suggesting those desccriptive terms have anything to do with the colored +/- symbols, then you haven't been paying attention to them.

As far as I know, +'s are more advised to attack, -'s the next best thing, so long as they're green. I never paid any attention to those symbols, and just went after whatever I was sure to hit easiest.

They might be probability modifiers toward the next auto-attack, so attacks with similar ease and effectiveness might be weighted differently, or less effective hits might be more likely to be randomly chosen instead. If so, it would give an idea of how the AI operates in combat.

"+" is a simple hit recommendation, saying "this is the most likely attack to hit and do good damage right now". "-" is a warning, saying that "this is below-average in terms of chance to hit and damage". The lighter the plus, the better. "!" means that it's an attack of opportunity, that one of your choices under that attack will be better than the rest, such as left foot kick or stab.
