Ah, today was a new day. A good day.
After defeating over 30 more undead ravens in 4 separate waves, the skies were clear of dark wings and full of raining blood snow (up until the guard pigs were attacked by more undead ravens, but the pigs were saved).
The Fort received some new guests. Dingoes.
Oh yes, dingoes. The last time the Silentthunders had these guys around was when it was naught more than a caravan and 7 Dwarves afraid to use their bolts on anything that wasn't already dead.
The dingoes should have killed the Dwarves there and then. Now?
6 of them showed up looking to scavenge the leftovers from the last ranging. 7 Dwarves were currently on active duty in the Spidery Forest. The pleated stakes, three hammerdwarves (of which one is the Fortress hammerer, Nil Erith) were sent to hunt.
Oh boy was it Fun. It was like 3 lions hunting 6 smaller lions. First they drove a wedge between the group, Atis chasing 2 of the dingoes off whilst Zuntir and Nil Erith ran down the other 4. With the other 2 chased off Atis rejoined the other two, and they began hunting down the dingoes one by one. Of interest was that my Dwarves always let the dingoes attack them at least once before killing them, I thought that was a rather nice touch. Also baby Erith (who Atis brought along to teach combat skills) was bitten by one of the dingoes in the lower body. Didn't even flinch - and healed within hours of the bite. Now she's got an awesome massive jagged scar to prove her Dorfiness. As for the dingo? Got pimp smacked by Atis into the ditch. Coincidentally, this made it the last to get killed; death caused by ☼Steel Warhammer☼ to the face.
Now, I'm no fan of blood sports IRL, but actually having something that ran away from my Dwarves, fought and prowled the ground was a great deal more refreshing from the usual "FILL THE SKY WITH STEEL BOLTS OR ELSE WE'LL ALL BE KILLED BY THE FLYING DEATH OH GOD THEY GOT MY EYEBALL ARRRRR."
Like lions hunting smaller lions.
It even rained! Like, normal rain! Completely free of blood!
Ah, good day. My Dwarves'll be eating roasted Dingo for a month.
