A tantruming pot ash maker slaying 5 goblins, including a swordmaster, with an oak log over his slain duckling.

FEAR THE OAK LOG!

Certainly you could argue that DF is a lot like The Sims, only... you know... with more vomit and decapitation.
If you launch a wooden mine cart towards the ocean at a sufficient speed, you can have your entire dwarf sail away in an ark.

This. So much.

The little ²:s exploding everywhere, trailing blood truly are a sight of beauty.
Also, when a goblin takes a plunge off my drop zone, right onto some lovingly crafted glass and copper spikes.

Dunno if this is "small," but watching my last military dorf bravely fight tooth and nail against the goblin seige before he passed on was pretty humbling and inspiring to watch. He just kept crawling backwards, axe flailing at the goblins to fend them off as they ganged up on him. His injuries were:

Left lower arm is cut open/dripping blood. Right lower arm is cut open. Guts bruised. Lower body bruised. Left upper arm is bruised. Right foot cut open. Left foot cut open. Left upper leg bruised. Left hand spraying blood.
Left hand gone. Upper right back teeth gone.
Axe was dropped and lost in the writhing mass of goblin invaders.

>He doesn't really care about anything anymore.
>Cattan Kubuktolot has been quite content lately.

And then he died.

Forging my first candy weapon gave me a good feeling too.
My first candy weapon was an artifact candy crossbow... The buck of rot. Loved it.

figuring out how to make corners with constructed mine tracks, then using said tracks to splatter an ambush a few seasons later.

Yeah.  Thus why I didn't make a trap.  In it's current state the fortress didn't need a trap, the whole damn fortress is a trap.

Happened today...

Watched a siege of 50 goblins and 15 trolls walk into my serrated disk traps, try to dodge, land on more traps, and the ones who hadn't entered the trap hallway panic and flee. Trolls still hung out til my military came after them... 50 dwarves in steel armor must be terrifying.

Then, i moved 3 squads to the caverns to protect my miners as I try to get a space for web farms up. The 2 forgotten beasts picked a fight... and got cut in half. Those were my first forgotten beast kills, no injuries at all.

Smoothing stone and then carving fortifications into it helps :)

Having narrowly avoided mass destruction by tantrum spiral using mass destruction by magma, watching my mayor survive the extremely well timed siege, despite being entirely dismembered in the entrance, surviving for four months, being beaten by ghosts, surviving an ambush, and still remaining ecstatic.
I was so proud, until he went beserk at the very end and bit the entire wave of migrants causing my entire fort to die of infection, and him from dehydration another 3 months later. He is immortalized in the engravings forever.

My Woodcutter Baroness getting locked outside during an elf siege. She killed 50 or so elves and animals with her copper axe. Watching her martially trance from elf to elf as they scattered from her was joyous.

One time I had 3 ambushes at once mainly consisting of crossbowmen. I ordered everyone inside and tried waiting them out after they slaughtered about 30 dogs.

Spring arrived and I hoped the caravan would arrive in time to help out but instead of the caravan, migrants arrived. Now, I could care less about migrants but I was really short-handed at the time and needed them so I sent the military in. I had embarked with a SwordDwarf and he had grown into a fine soldier. In fact, the only dwarf in the military.

Well, as soon as he left the fort, a barrage of arrows went flying at him. He rolled away behind a wall and dodged all of them. As soon as they got close he jumped out and started slashing limbs off. Only one lucky goblin got away. And he was missing an arm and both legs. He had crawled away in the middle of the slaughter.
