Nah, it's fine, I think I'll manage for now.

I suppose there's one thing I could use an answer for - aren't feathers by default a material which attacks pass right through? Something I recall, I'm probably wrong about this, but I could use a clarification.

that has more to do with them being a weird-shaped layer than anything in the material itself

That's a good question really. Very rarely see feathers or other body coverings mentioned except when strangling something. But the game has a tendency to report only the deepest penetrated layer, say muscle, even though if you've torn the muscle you must have damaged the fat and skin, because they're in the way. I always just figured body hair/feathers aren't mentioned because just about everything goes right through them and affects the skin, which is what you'd see in the combat logs.

Hmm... Maybe if we make the body covering extremely thick on an extremely large organism, attacks would fail to get through it and thus be reported? I've never tried that.

edit: Nope, still seems to bypass it.

Well there you go. Your civilization has no gameplay-relevant positions!!! Only dwarves start with those by default. Humans and their NPC ways will do fine with just the two VARIABLE_POSITIONS tokens for their lords and hearthpersons, but you need to define your roles.

As for the hillocks, they want to do CAVE_DETAILED sites, but their BIOME_SUPPORT says they aren't allowed anywhere near mountains, so they do the next best thing and settle for rolling hills. Again, see the definition of dwarves for what you need.

How can I make a creature (or a plant) more resistant to fire without making it immune? I'd assume it'd involve things like the HEATDAM, IGNITE POINT, etc, of its materials, but I'm not sure what I'd want to do to make it still take damage, but be hardier and more likely to survive a fireball. I'm making a Pokemon mod and fire currently seems way too powerful. I don't mind it incinerating dwarves but other Pokemon shouldn't be an automatic KO.

Those do seem to be the way to go, given how the dragons have HEATDAM set in the raws in order to make them immune to fire damage. I'm not sure about the exact values for making them resistant but not fully immune, though.

Going into the territory of creatures with multiple castes that have different materials - how do I have the castes use different blood colours? It seems like if I set one caste to have gray coloured blood, but the other is unchanged, they both have the same colour.

Also a slight problem with descriptors - when I hit the caste that's supposed to be made out of stone, it says "chipping the skin", for example, instead of "chipping the stone".
