The thing is, though, to the citizens who attck you when you attack the beast, you have committed sacrilege. This clown, to them, IS a god, and you have essentially sworn an undying vendetta against their whole way of life. Exit the metagaming, and you'll realize that most humans, ignorant as they are, know nothing about the Circus, and thus to them the clown that tricked them is the god. When you attack them, you become the most hated being ever in their history, for you tried to stike down a GOD, and take away all that s/he has done.

Oh no, that evil man killed our god, lets take revenge on this man who has managed to kill a IMMORTAL and apparently has strength and skill that SURPASSES a gods skill and strength.
I swear, they must be one of the angriest angry mobs you'll ever meet.

-Assuming you are not atheist- Wouldn't you be ticked as hell if someone came up to your god, cut his head off right infront of you, then started walking away?

Is said god an asshole and lets bad things happen to our civilization or is it a good god?
Important factor you know.
Not nescasarilly. It could be a plus even to have a viloent god, if you worship destruction abd death and such.  Why would anyone do that is a excellent question, but not one that should be asked in Dwarf fortress.

just sneak around him until you get a clean shot at his head.
Just to be sure.

And playing as a BC tends to cause loyalty cascades anyway.

The Norse gods from Viking-age religions were all killable. They ate magic apples to stay young.

Baldr was killed because every living thing in the world, plus fire, had to take an oath not to hurt him, but the gods didn't bother asking mistletoe not to hurt him, because why bother with mistletoe. So they set up games of throwing shit at Baldr and watching it bounce off (Baldr was just a nice guy all around). The blind god Hoth was never able to play it, so Loki made a mistletoe dart and guided Hoth to throw it, which unluckily killed Baldr instantly.

The apple thing is under the stanza XXVI, and Loki kills Baldr at stanza XLIX.

edit:
I'm not trying to say all fantasy gods should be killable because they were killable in norse myths, I am just citing an instance where gods aren't invincible.

Does that hold true for most Semi-Megabeasts/Megabeasts?

WORDSWORDSWORDS
Asatru has some pretty cool deities compared with other polytheistic religions, and I like that their gods and goddesses are more like people than unknowable/superior beings from the other side.

I scrapped my old world and started a new one. My first second adventurer spoke to the local lawgiver and lo and behold it was a "deity". It's the first time I've seen one in Adventurer Mode, so I was pretty excited.

Not planning on murdering it just yet; this is a pretty big civilisation and I'd like to explore more of it before breaking the status-quo.

I wouldn't recommend killing it as it's actually rather benevolent to the civ it's in, and plus, killing dieties just 'cause they're clowns is kinda metagaming. And they will slaughter all but the most hardy, so if you must, wait a bit, power up, and THEN instantly die from their attendants.

Well metagaming in a this is what you do for a Special run of adventure mode not what all adventurers should do. though gods and the ones you see are two different beings and killing one won't effect the other.

Of course. But would you rather be remembered as the bloody psychopath who slaughtered millions, or the bloody psychopath who got oneshotted by a piece of bone jewllery?

Either way you're remembered, by terrified NPC children.

Especially once we gain the ability to animate furniture.

I don't see it as metagaming really. In legends it says peasants are guided by forces unknown, and heroes are guided by destiny, so that is a factor I take into account.

This makes me think.
Will there be good, nice, virtuous, holy clowns in a future update?
Because turncoat demons would be awesome.
