fun with momentum
« on: May 21, 2012, 01:30:05 pm »

Seems it took awhile for latest updates to affect my world, but I can now use the minecarts I found laying around. What's more, my strikes are passing momentum to bodies, so I'm seeing a lot of them fly 1-2 tiles. Even an iron knife throws bogeymen back. I haven't decided whether this is more or less annoying than impalement -- apparently superhuman agility isn't enough to spear them in the air, so I have to wait for them to land to hit them again.

What I find funny is that if they fly back, sometimes they skid along the ground, bruising the x, and then they 'slam into an obstacle!' It's like cartoon physics have been implemented!

But thrown corpses hit their mark instantly rather than fly in a parabola, and don't throw the victim back with their weight.

I'm sad for that. Can't play kobold dominoes. No skull-bowling.

I punched a guy in the chest, he flew and hit a wall then broke his neck. I was overcome with joy.

My observations, for what they're worth.

I've had much luck throwing heavy things. Human corpses will reliably send other humans flying.

If creatures are standing in a line you can knock them into each other.

The only damage from being sent flying (other than the initial blow (and stunning)) is from skidding; crashing into an obstacle does nothing but end the flight.

Blunt weapons are (still) not as good as feet and fists for sending things flying. Whips may be the exception to this.

Creatures falling into water sometimes generate mist (is this new?).

If the hit is weak enough, slamming into an obstacle will only stun the creature. It's been like that in previous versions, too.

In mid air, the dwarf continued to take hits from both the minecart and his own falling axe.

Falling into, not sure, I know skipping on water causes bursts of mist.

Created mist when I stepped off a bank into air instead of the river. 1 z-lvl drop makes a pretty big cloud.

I see you've never been flung at high speeds before. Good, albeit painful times.

I did ever so enjoy setting dwarves to size infinity and then just punching everything into walls. Sounds like this doesn't work anymore then :(
