PTA: Play By Post Rpol Game, Planet Pokel III!
« on: May 20, 2012, 10:08:22 pm »

The date is 2134. Or at least that was the date back home on Earth. The scientists involved in the solar sails and cryro chamber travel approximate that six hundred years will have passed before we reach our destination. The colonization ship is the size of a small country, with a human capacity of 3000 colonists and technicians for creating a world on a new planet.

Welcome to Pokel III.

Moral was high when the Space Bream finally finished her long journey and settled into orbit around Pokel. The first group of scouts and engineers woken up and sent to the surface were to build a hand-hold in the wilderness and provide a base-camp for further expansion. At first things went well, not knowing much about local resources other than this was a Class M planet, they used supplies brought down with them from the mothership.

The peace didn't last long however. Once the spaceport was created on the surface, the Bream reclaimed the lander that returned on an emergency flight. The few scouts inside were covered in blood, and raving about walking flowers who shot lasers, demonic trees as hard as rocks, exploding pine cones and blood thirsty dragons looking for food.

The local wildlife was nicknamed Pokel monsters after this first disastrous encounter. They have been attacking humans and humans settlements ever since the Bream brought the colonists here. It wouldn't be as much of an issue if you had modern weapons, but the charter of the colony gave only medical science allowance to bring current technology. The only weapons you have are basic melee weapons like crowbars and sport equipment. A arms and armor enthusiast was quickly woken up and his stash of swords and knives given out to volunteers to battle these creatures.

The casualty rate is still extremely high, but there are some bright minds still left in the chryosleep chambers. One such bright mind figured out that hatching eggs of these 'pokelmon' would imprint on the first being they see. Even if that being is a human. And thus, seven eggs were claimed from nests at the costs over over a dozen human lives. These seven eggs are brought to the spaceport basecamp where you were selected to be one of the 'trainers' of these pokemon.

Your job will be the protection of colonists and the acquisition of resources. The Bream cannot stay in orbit forever, and the colonists have already begun waking up through the computer systems trying to save power. It is your job to direct those that are sent down to the surface, and make sure everyone has a home, and workplace to live.

Supplies and weapons are in short... rare. You start with some basic first aid and medical supplies good for a few healing of minor injuries. Anything major requires a hospital of some kind and waking up a full doctor. It's best to be careful when out exploring until natural cures are found.

Captain Goerge Baskit has gathered you all in the hanger of the lander as you prepare to jump down to the planet surface. He checks each of you over before sending you down with a grim expression and a warning: thousands of lives are in your hands, don't screw this up.

Hi there, and welcome to Pokelmon. ;)

This will be a play-by-post game run using the Roleplay Online forum software. I'm posting this thread as a recruitment in a couple places and am looking for 4-8 good players to join me. I chose rpol as a home for this because it allows you to post anonymously in the guise of your character and gives automatic thread controls for folders and the like to be created by the GM. It also gives you places to input your character descriptions, inventories, and even a way to create private text in posts.

The setting is low-tech sci fi. As the fluff above shows. It will be a grimdark game. To me this means death will happen, I'm not going to have little kids in this game running around fainting pokemon all the time. This world is brutal and unforgiving to stupidity and bad luck. Also note that there are no pokeballs, pokemon centers, or pokedexses. You should roleplay yourself knowing nothing about these pokemon other than a general fear of the danger they represent. The world is unexplored wilderness with a couple vague maps that have warnings like 'here be dragons' that are a bit more based in reality than similar earth maps.

Your goal will be to explore, gather materials, and build the colony using your pokemon. I will periodically report on people brought down by the lander, along with any earth-based resources. You are expected to get them homes and workplaces as soon as possible. More info on this will happen in character, but try and think creatively when it comes to pokemon. Moves like cut, dig, rock smash, etc may help out more than others. Capabilities like power and size will also be an issue.

Characters will start off at TL5. Capture Specialist is banned for obvious reasons, and the base homebrew class Wild Child is given freely to each trainer at TL0. Other wild child classes are allowed, but Genetic is banned until after initial character creation. When you apply I need the stats and progression for your TL's, as well as a bit of backstory about where you came from and why you are here. Your starting inventory will be a set of clothing, a pokemon egg(see below), and a single human-powered weapon(swords, clubs, bows and arrows, etc). A basic description of your character would be welcomed as well.

For your pokemon you need to choose 3 different 'starters'. In this game I will allow a starter to be any pokemon with 3 evolutionary stages. Of these three, one will hatch from your egg when the game starts. I will decide which ones hatch, so choose wisely. They will all start at level 1, with a single egg move of your choice. You may also choose gender, ability, and nature.

You can either post your application in this thread, or send me a private message with the info, You can also directly sign up to the Rpol page and apply Here: http://rpol.net/game.cgi?gi=51363 I will start either when I receive 8 people I feel confidant in, or a full week passes from the time I make this post. This is my first time GMing at Rpol, so give me a little slack if things are bumpy to start.. If you have any other questions feel free to post, and I will answer as best I can.

I think I'll give it a shot, though I've never played Pokemon Tabletop Adventures before. I'll be a bit on-and-off activity wise this summer, though.

This looks very interesting, thanks for letting me know. I'm in. Let me get a sheet up.

E: I'm going for either brute force, or burning stuff. I choose Charmander, Geodude, and Machop. Now to find out how the rest of this game works...

If you need any help, feel free to ask. We've been playing PTA here for a while now. And most know the system at least at a basic level.

Well, I got trough the trainer classes. I'll be done with the rest soon, if Diablo can leave me alone for a few hours.

E: Apparently, Geodude can learn 'curse' as an egg move but it's not in the move list. It is, however referenced in some places in the rulebook. Is there something I'm missing? (Not that I need it, just curious)

Curse is single move under the 'special case' section of the move list. On Geodude it would just raise attack and def, but lower speed.

Ok, all three characters here look good.

D and SC have been given access and their character sheets on Rpol.

Eagle need to make sure you sign up over here:http://rpol.net/game.cgi?gi=51363
And send in an application for access. Then I can add you to the group.
