Race named "Town" in worldmap
« on: May 20, 2012, 07:35:47 am »

Have never seen this before and a search in the dwarf mode and dwarf general forums turned up no useable results.

Has anyone ever seen that before and knows what it is? It is only in a small region, maybe 10x10 big in the region window, and I don't see anything strange in there.

A necro took over the town. Expect it to send free gifts every now and then.

A tower and a city filled with undeads, both in reach of my new project? Neat.

Never seen that happen before, and I've genned a lot of worlds since we have necromancers. (Dual towers are so hard to get  :()

So wait, if there is no tower in the embark screen, there will be no necromancer attacks?

Obvious troll is troll.  Your entitled to your opinions, but many, many people obviously enjoy Dwarf Fortress.  (Yourself included, apparently)

It just shows the poor quality of the game, which makes more people just get away.
For now, I'm waiting for a game to come out, then I'll gladly leave Dwarf Fortress, the game of unrealistic shit where lions can fucking get stuck into a lion's chest.

Yeah this definitely represents the poor quality of the game, I mean, it just symbolises everything wrong with it. The fact there's a necromancer lording over a town, it just sucks!

.... Yeah man   ???

I'm talking of the race called Town.

You can't imagine seeing some asshole saying: "I'm a town, what about you?"

If you have NOTHING constructive to say, other then "TH1S SUX!1!!" then just leave please.

Ah, but you can imagine a town being taken over by an invading entity, losing all communication and simply being referred to as a "town" in a fantasy setting now, can you?

If not, consider reading a book.

i'm pretty sure you'll be disappointed with urr if you're expecting it to be absolutely bug-free, and with the scope of the game being similar to df, i doubt you wont find some half implemented feature causing some funky absurd behaviour at some point in the near future development

Actually, it's Ultima Ratio Regum.
Perhaps the best roguelike I'm going to see.
I'm glad that the developer didn't make stupid ass shit like poo killing an elephant.
Look, man, you're hurting our feelings. Please stop. We're fragile beings, prone to various heartaches. We're human too, after all. Are we not simply beasts, held sway by our emotions and afflictions? Is it not true that the greatest of us is the same as the meekest? If you prick us, do we not bleed? If you tickle us, do we not laugh? You're hitting it hard, man, laying it down with jive that lasts a lifetime. Your mojo's too whack, brother, and you're hitting us hard where it really hurts: right here. You can't see it but I'm pointing to my heart, by the way.

Please stop. You've hurt our feelings. That's cold.

I think I know what this guy's deal is. If you look in his post history, you'll see he posted a very useless 'Newbie Questions' thread to ask a dumb question that two seconds reading the wiki or running a forum search would've solved. (Link)

Now he's butthurt that his awesome unique idea of having one giant generic thread for 'ALL the questions!!1' was allowed to sink into obscurity. Incensed by the community's unwillingness to throw every question into a single thread - thus creating a big, steamy pile, over which his name would forever be known as 'OP' (oh god he's getting hard now just reading this) - he has decided that Dwarf Fortress and everybody who plays it is a booger-headed meanie pants.

And like any half-witted alchoholic dwarf, he is now throwing a tantrum, running around the forum, stripping off all his clothes and babbling nonsensically. This problem will soon solve itself, gentlemen. Just give it some time.

I'm just not sure I even get the complaint--it doesn't reveal the race in a buggy way-like with the other necromancer indicator "tower" it just indicates a location from whence trouble spills forth. A bug would be gibberish or a game-crash, this is more of an unpredictable result of a dynamic world gen and so very much a feature.

I didn't realize all this fun I was having was imaginary, thank you for enlightening me, dot jaypeg.

I'm more confused why you would choose to here of all places to rant about the game. Something tells me you're not going to find the audience you were looking for. I can't prove anything, and I generally shy away from ageism, but it's a good sign you're dealing with a fifteen-or-so brat masquerading as a proper member of society on the internet when they try excessively hard to act mature and patronize others for not living up to their own standards of maturity.

Back in MY day the forum wasn't like this though. Not for the most part. I fully blame the minecraft "community" and to a lesser extent reddit for all this trouble.
