Question on brokers - Who wants to do some Science?
« on: May 20, 2012, 03:03:49 am »

How many trades does it take to get a broker from no skill to legendary +5 in all the traits that get 5-15 per trade (Assuming averages)?

I don't know, it'd be some pretty taxing science.

I had to use an untrained negotiator last caravan because my broker decided to do every dwarfy function except trade at the depot.  I traded for all their trap components and steel items and went to legendary+ in one sitting.

I've got my money on the fact that it would take quite a few very taxing trades.

So, are you going to give us the goods, JTTCOTE?

Imo, anyone who pulled this science off would be worthy of appraisal.

I'm supposing some enterprising merchant could sell this idea much better?

Possibly someone who has been known to deliver the goods on a more regular basis?

I'm afraid if that were the final deal, no one would accept the offer.

He/she would most certainly fit the bill, unless someone else could seal the deal..

The OP counts as a Request for Proposal, but my response would highball the estimated hours for the project.

(I like SCIENCE where I can test something in about 15 minutes real time, which applies to many things, but not this)

The part that makes this so taxing is the variable amount of wares brought to the fortress by friendly neighbourhood caravans.  As Buzz mentioned it is possible to get a zero skill broker to Legendary in one trading session, but only if there is a sufficiently capitalized caravan carting cats, cups and cloth to your capitol.
