Boats would be cool. There could be invasions and wars via boats ! And magma traps to make them burn :) (or boiling the sailors with the heat), or water traps to make them sinks.

Well, boats will be cool !

Once boats are implemented, a lot of people will be killing dwarves with them, just so they can say they boatmur.dered something.

I honestly didn't see this one coming

Honestly, I'd be happy enough if more vehicles could be added so a siege would, you know, siege. "Hey, a moat. Let's stand by the water, rafts are for kobolds."

Yes, and i think that during World gen, it would be normal that civilisation use boats to build city or to make war. Sometimes, with only ONE tile of water, people can't reach the other side of the sea...it's absurd.

I spend most of my time trying to stop dwarves drowning whenever they even work NEAR water. Why on Armok's blood soaked earth would I encourage them to go near it?

That should be a new type of project, making a rug design in dwarf fortress (With accurate coloring)

Dwarves like water as much as cats that can swim.

Then they would like boats, is what you're saying?

Because every time I embark on a river, all my cats end up in the river and NEVER DIE.

I'd agree with that. While minecarts were something I always wanted, and was sure it would be implemented, the boats, rafts, ferries (and maybe other small vehicles like chariots or siege towers) are things I'm really longing for. But I'm not sure that these would be implemented before there is and algorithm to create artificial fortresses to besiege.

I'd knew I seen boats mentioned somewhere.

You build a fort by an ocean, and a few years later get traders showing up and complaining because they don't have a trade dock for their boat. A few years after that, pirates dock and attack your fort.

Do you have any idea what a proper dwarven beard soaked in water weighs?

Deconstruct the dock so you get to keep their boats, and they have to swim back.
