some small raw changes i would like to see in vanilla
« on: May 19, 2012, 03:42:03 am »

i know this is something i can do easily alone, but they should at least ease modding a bit, espcially if new versions come and we got to change a few things back or help with finding stuff faster

split plants into several raw files like creatures
at least for "plants_standard" for all the surface plants like wild strawberries
but also plants_subterranean plants_trees_subterranean plants_trees_standard
grass too should be split into subterranean and standard ones

also while we are at it, material value for feather wood should be raised, as its some very special kind of wood and being only in some good bioms also rare

same for value marble and granite should be raised by one, they are very sought after building materials and should outstand from their peers, making marble worth like obsidian doesnt seem to far fetched and granite even without other uses same as the flux stones.

From "Angroshs Kinder" Das schwarze Auge Zwergenhandbuch - (Angrosh Children, the dark eye, german pen&paper, dwarven handbook):
"Elves!? Their men dont wear beards, and their women bathe nacked to lure you into the water and drown you. Thank Angrosh they are as ugly as the day and all big and skinny."

Actually, I'd prefer one big raw for all creatures: just search with CTRL+F whatever you need, instead of opening file after file if you don't remember in which file it was... It's always possible to add headers in the file to organize it a bit.

Actually after Uristocrat's density overhaul we got 1 above-ground plant with density of 140 (while feather is 100)... so we got a second barrel tree now:)

Except that "tree" is a cactus.

You aren't going to be harvesting too many of them, one way or another, although you might be able to import them from caravans.

I don't see rearranging the raws as changing the game much. It'd just waste Toady's time.

I do agree that certain kinds of exotic materials should be worth more. Feather wood, giant (insert-donation-animal-here) stuff, beak dog leather, nether-cap wood...the list goes on. Exotic = cool. Cool ~= valuable.
