I just tried this out. Made a theatrics one, won all the fights I had tournament tokens for, then went on to do tavern contracts. Got two serious injuries doing tavern contracts. Is that normal? I got a measly 50 or so gold (and that's counting the crappy items I sold off during it) and crippled my gladiator.

Game seems kind of silly, and extremely luck based. Just finding a good gladiator to start with is like playing a slot machine, with 1 free spin daily and the ability to purchase more. Same with tavern contracts - you either get lucky and get awarded stuff, or don't and wind up with crippling injuries and nothing to show for it.

I've had no serious injuries yet.

While your glad is low level, it's very, very cheap to heal them (or at least, I assume it's because mine is low level - the text says something like "since you're still a new trainer, we'll give you a discount")

For what it's worth, I've never taken a serious injury doing tavern missions. Have you equipped your glad with armor?

Completely unrelated to this thread, but I just found a dwarf in Runescape named Urist.
Whenever I try to talk to him it says he's hard at work on some kind of delicate construction.

Olllllldd reference.

I really don't understand the mechanics of this game. So I'm at 4 stamina, full HP. My opponent has 29 stamina and 78HP.

I swing and miss. Stumble over a skull. And win. How? Blow-by-blow shows me that is the last action I took before I won. I am supposed to be at 0 stamina and fall over from exhaustion! I'm 12 and what is this?

Herp, this guy is probably not cut out to be a gladiator.

I'd say the manager is much more at fault since he apparently didn't pay enough attention to weapon skill :P

Weapon skill soaks up a lot of points though. My Dunder is down to 10% chance to increase. I've been doing some other skills in the mean time; it is level 7 anyway.

Wow.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
They started it.

EDIT: I couldn't resist spending the trophies to fight The Butcher. Armok 1-hit him.
Forgot to copy the fight AGAIN. WHY DON'T THEY SAVE CHALLENGE FIGHTS?
So here:
2012-05-30 - ACHIEVEMENT COMPLETED: Tier 1 - The Butcher
Congratulations! Armok just completed the Tier 1 - The Butcher achievement!
And he has "The Butcher" as his title now. Which isn't really fitting since he has a maul, which really does better than any bladed weapon he has used.

There is a greatsword in the shop now that gives +20 attack power. My current weapon does the same base damage and has +5 presence and chi. Is it worth swapping out?

Check if any of your abilities make use of Chi.
I'd say +20 attack power is probably more useful, but if Armok frequently makes use of something that uses Chi, perhaps not.

Tried it out as well, so far it's kind of fun. I started out with a theatrics gladiator using exotic weapons and shield and so far I have had mixed results (really I am like 12/12.) And as soon as I could I expanded my barracks to get another slave, this time a dual mace-wielding rage one. This one has had a bit more success but for some reason I still like my theatrics one more :p

As have been mentioned before I love the flavour text describing the fights, my one big downside so far though is that it feels VERY random.

I have absolutely slaughtered people in purple/green gear while lost against a naked dude (as in he had nothing on him but a gray sword in his main hand).
Then again I have not played for long so maybe what I call random is actually strategy or in the case of the naked man "clever use of game mechanics".

Will keep playing for a few days more and see if I get tired of it like I do of most f2p browser games, but so far it has me a bit hooked.

Both Ingrid and Reginald have journeyed on to the other side(my the gladiators responsible be damned for eternity), leaving me saddened and slaveless, for the time being.

Ingrid was fortunately able to dish out a healthy amount whoop-ass before she met her end, though it pains me to say that if Reginald does not up his game soon, I will be forced to consider searching for a replacement...
