[Browser Game] Pit of War
« on: May 19, 2012, 02:19:23 am »

For those who haven't seen the game yet, the website is here:
http://www.pitofwar.com

So in this game, you hire slaves, choose their race/class, deck them out in whatever armor and weapons you have, and send them to face off against other gladiators and watch as they bash, slash, and smash the bones and brains out of each other.

While the idea is simple, the strategy gets very deep since as your gladiator gains experience, you are given the option of determining not only his armor and abilities, but even his battle plan such as conserving his actions when he grows tired or turning full berserk when the enemy is knocked to the ground. Even though some combinations may fare better than others in general, there is no one technique beats all method which allows for plenty of experimenting and some pretty diverse gameplay.

The game is technically text based, but it's full of sweet illustrations which I find helps with the immersion.

Here's a pic of a gladiator's arm getting lopped off.

So anyone else play the game out there?

To answer your comment from the previous thread, Other Games is for pretty much any non-Bay-12 game, such as Towns, Call of Duty, X-COM, etc. It also covers web-based games like this one.

Looking at the website, they've got some pretty cool artwork.

Is this historically based, or is it fantasy? If it's the later, is it low fantasy (everyone is human, basically an alternate universe) or high (different races, possibly magic)?

Fantasy in that they have different races, but no magic (at least not explicitly, there are minor enchantments though).
Only good ol' weapon swinging and mutilated body parts.

Cool. I'd want to pit a lizardman against some sort of elf and see who wins :D

Seems neat enough, kinda generic looking now, but I'm interested in seeing how it pans out. Nice art too, as people have said.

This is a pretty cute browser game.

Though there isnt very much variety in the flavor text.

Looks interesting enough, though like all browser games I'm sure it'll fail to remain interesting at some point.

The descriptions are a bit over the top, though. "Some guy severs your spine! Your guy guts him like a fish! He cuts your eyes out! You chop his arms off! He begs for mercy and you win!

Your gladiator has no serious injuries."

The disconnect between some of the more extreme sides of the spectrum are pretty funny too.

"YOU JUST PULLED OUT A GUY'S SPINE AND WHIPPED HIS HEAD OFF WITH IT"
"and then you hit him too lightly to do serious damage and blushed how silly"

Yeah, i'm loving how my attacks are apparently pitiful but do more damage than most people aside from when I get critted. I've also worked out I lose most of my fights due to my fighter being to tired, that's annoying.

I'm liking this, made a gladiator called Aristotle.

Wow, I managed to get an unclaimed team name only on the fifth try. Gladiator name on the second. Time to check this baby out.

This is an awesome little time-waster. My gladiators all seem to suck, though..
