Oh an update, looks like the blacksmith has gotten a lot of changes to it.

So far it doesn't seem like an improvement. Blue stuff costs about the same, but you only have so much available each day and cycling costs trophies now.
Furthermore you can only shop for one gladiator unless you use trophies, unless you're looking at around the same lvl range. I entered the shop with my lv 50 and now I can't buy anything for my 35.
Seems like you can buy purple stuff now, only they are outrageously pricy. lvl 50 purples seem to cost just under half a million gold.

Stable upgrades are a lot cheaper tho, wich is pretty nice. You can almost maintain all membership by buying a trophy a day now, as it costs 15 for 14 days for all 4. Pretty sweet.

Still, I'm going to miss cycling through gear to find the perfect piece. The current selection seems extremely limited.
 
Almost freedom for primus slaves. Not quite up my alley yet but I'm curious to see how this will work.

One big flaw I see is the blacksmith will only show items that are the level of your current active glad. So if i go shopping for ThreeToe I'll have to use a trophy just to view items that are Armok's level. That's not right.

And Armok already has an option to award him freedom. Are you kidding me? We're just getting started!

I haven't gotten a chance to see the new patch in action yet (at work), but I defiantly agree - if he's going to change the smith from 50/10 gold a shot to see new items to 1 trophy, I damn well want a separate smith for each of my gladiators.

I mean, even if you go by the laughable assumption that each trophy is only worth 150 gold, that's a 3x/15x increase in cost to see new items.

I really wish that the dev would be a little less blatant about his money-grubbing ways.

edit: I'm glad that I did some shopping yesterday - I must've burned a good 250 or so gold searching for a good blue to pick up - I'd apparently need 25 trophies to do that now.

edit^2: Looked at the patch notes on the forum - it looks like he also increased the number of items that are shown by a lot. I suppose that's not quite as bad, since it means you'll have at least an ok chance of getting something you want... but the fact that you'll need to spend a trophy for each gladiator still sucks.

You get an improved selection of slaves to forge even stronger fighters from I think.
I suppose the initial climb to primus and the 500(was it?) wins is only the beginning to start playing with some good slaves but that's just my speculation.

I bought 60 trophies when I saw how far ahead Mistress Z was.

They've only gone towards seeing how I like the memberships so far. No gear, yet. But yeah free-to-play is completely out of the question now. I won't be focusing on gear until I get into top 10 Blood Gods at least.

Good news, it seems all gladiators now get one free press of the 'new items' button, so you can see stuff that actually matches their level. Bad news, I had already spent one of my now incredibly valuable trophies switching it in order to view items for one of my low level gladiators earlier. Damn it.

The Black Market is so weird. ThreeToe got kicked from 1st to 3rd because a couple of people lost more fights than him.

The whole tie breaker system should be redone so that people with more wins (and kills) are above those with less, regardless of points.

No. It's just ridiculous. I swear I saw one that gave you -1 point for WINNING. Also those ones that give big penalties for killing your opponent. What? We don't even have control over that! Also whenever it is set up like that there is some guy with a perfect record and absolutely no kills that always shows up at #1. And if kills give any points then they'll have several. Wut.
