This is an awesome little time-waster. My gladiators all seem to suck, though..

Give em time, I suppose?  Pick weak targets to beef them up.

I find that smaller rapiers and daggers tend to be quite effective early on due to their speed, but once you start meeting guys wearing heavy armor, you'll want to get something bigger.

Also of note is your starting race, early on that has a huge effect. I picked an urk so just compared to everyone else's base stats, I hit really hard and take hits really well. I imagine later on he'll start having a harder time hitting people, or people will hit much faster then him or somethin.

So, I bought my second slave. I'm going with an entire Theoretical stable.

My first slave name is Kill Prettier and my new slave name is Kill Flashier

Made a Snivler (?) Theatrical named Temporal Beast. Team named Dead Zeds.
10 wins 2 losses by setting activity level to 10 at start and poking the hell out of the enemy with a fancy trident and knuckle duster, and the two losses were to guys doing apparently the same thing.

I like the game a lot so far :P

I like the game, but it seems really pay-to-win. I'm fighting arena matches where half of the other dude's equipment is purple, which as far as I can tell requires trophies, which are easiest to get by paying real money. Luckily, I won with basic equipment :P

Level 6 Human Theatrics fighter named Arrakis. 8 wins, 5 losses, 0 kills. Everything is basic equipment (gladius) and light armor except for some mystical shield I picked up. 183rd in the amateur rankings. Go team Bloody Templars!

EDIT: Okay, what the hell. I wandered over to the arena to fight some more. Surprise! Arrakis is dead. Bull. Freaking. Crap.

EDIT2: Revived Arrakis, got into another fight against a level 3 dude carrying only a newbie broadsword. Arrakis got annihilated; didn't land a single decent blow while something around 75% of the other dude's hits are red or orange. Now he has a serious wound to his weapon arm and I'm already considering dropping this game. I can't think of a single reason he could have lost that fight, but lose it he did.

I've gotta say that the combat is VERY similar to dwarf fortress in how brutal, random, and nonsensical it is.

I didn't realize that you could take 119 damage in a single attack :o

Arrakis, you are rapidly beginning to suck. Stop that.

They mention something about resurrection sickness for 24 hours after being revived. It's very likely that's why Arrakis wasn't performing as well as he should have.

Yeah, but I didn't think it would be quite so bad. Dude can't even complete tavern contracts right now thanks to this. That 119 damage I mentioned up there? A contract that offered a measly 1 gold as a reward. He's pretty much useless until the sickness wears off, and in the meantime someone else could fight and kill/wound him again.

Had a BG itch, this seems to be scratching it. Loving the art so far and the game is fun enough.

Rolling a Pointy Bitz team ('Stick them with the pointy end' was too long), a human War specialist, Medium Spike, so far I've jumped from 44th to 3rd place simply by beating the top guy three times in a row X)

Well I made some very bad decisions with my first account. Now I'm team Boatmurdered with Armok the  2h Rage Dunder. I set his activity level to 2-3 (because y'know... 2h) and that resulted in him standing all derp-faced (I imagine) while his arms were ripped off and his chest torn open. Apparently even if the whole point of a build is slow, devastating attacks you still need your activity set to 7-8 just so he won't spend the entire fight doing nothing >.>

Nevertheless I will make Armok a feared name in Pit of War! (at least he was #1 on the Fresh Meat board)

All shall fall before the mighty warrior REGINALD, RAGE GLADIATOR!!

As has been stated, the artwork is glorious, and the brutality makes me feel like I'm reading through DF combat reports. Not to mention, I'm a big fan of badass over-the-top weapons/armor. I think I may stick with this for a while.

I'm curious as to what happens if you run out of money and fighters, and can't afford any more. Do you earn money every day?
