One of my dwarves just cheerfully made my fort a wooden earing with a wooden picture of his best friend on it.

Who later made an amulet. With the other dwarf's picture. I want to murder both of them.
But... BRO IS ALWAYS BRO D:

I find all furniture artifacts useful even the boring ones. That way I can give the mayor the plain schist bed and give the militia commander the masterul Blood Thorn bed encrusted with black diamonds and goblin bone.

And the useless artifact weapons can be given to the captian of the guard so its all cool.

The only "usless" artifacts are basically tradegades.

No matter how "Disappointing"  something like a wood artifact chair, or a talc artifact door are.. they are still very useful in terms of building somewhere and instantly making a grand bedroom or such.

Three words, fellas. Display Case Mod.

I think Toady's confusing interface better simulates the experience of a bunch of disorganised drunken dwarves running a fort.

This. Also nobody ever has cause to complain about artifact doors or hatches given that they are immune to building destroyers and give happy occasional happy thoughts to dwarves who pass through them. Even an artifact grate is good- heck, submerge it in magma to keep out buildingdestroyers, or use it like a lever-controlled hatch.

Tradegoods are awful. When possible I try to leave them outside so that they'll get stolen and provoke kobold ambushes.

It's a pet bed! You can let the kittens sleep in it.

It focuses the raw energies of the terror that is a cat into one comfortable and pleasant sleeping experience, if a little plagued by eldritch monstrosities.

Cats are squiddles?

I will never look at them the same way again...

Stick the grate in a noble's bedroom.

Whenever I see a possessed dwarf take over a craftsdwarf shop, I feel a small part of my sanity die. :I

So many useless trinkets.

A lead boot encirled with bands of lead. Too heavy to function as a boot and too soft to function as armor.
