Attracting Kobolds
« on: May 18, 2012, 11:45:33 am »

I'm trying to provoke a kobold ambush so I can capture them and put them in a little village I'm building in a walled-off cavern section, but I don't want them stealing my artifacts or anything like that. If I seal the fortress except for an outdoor stockpile of miscellaneous junk, will they steal from that?

Yeah. Kobolds don't discriminate much; I think they go for the most valuable item lying around, but that's about it.

Leave a few exceptional quality cloth items. Poor Kobolds on my map keep getting killed by the local fauna :(

Kobolds are TRAPAVOID, so you'll need to get creative when it comes to the capturing part.

Really long bridge on the way to stockpile, with 1-2 z-level high pit and cagetraps under the bridge. Manual activation when kobold has been spotted and is passing the bridge.

Pit traps work nicely.

Get 100 kobolds in a pit.
Fill the pit with water.
Soup?

I'm planning on using some retracting bridges over cage traps.

A kobold in the corner turns, hisses, and flees into a room called "Community Games and Stories", leaving behind a admanite wafer.

The first attempt involved dressing in drag and drinking enough alcohol to blind a moose.

It... it didn't go well.
