Not sure I like the new drop rates
« on: May 18, 2012, 09:17:10 am »

I just updated to the newest version and I'm not a particular fan of the new drop rates. I may just stick with 34.07, then again the new hauling system is pretty nice, but when I have my legendary miners mining out an iron vein, I kind of liked getting all the iron. How does everyone else feel about this?

I haven't really noticed a difference, to be honest.

I like it, makes the game more real.
But sometimes I hate it, when I find native platinun,0 drops, make me mad

It may seem more real, but I liked the unrealistic, mass amounts of stone that I had to move. Now there is hardly any, it's making it difficult to get anything done.

I think the change is smart.

25% drop rate x 4 bars/ore = same amount of bars (on average)

25% drop rate = 1/4 as many stones

1/4 as many stones = 1/4 as many hauling jobs

1/4 as many stones = less lag (hopefully)

less stone to move makes it difficult to get anything done?

x4 the blocks, there is no problem here.

Well there isn't as much in general, and I'm finding myself at a shortage for larger projects like roads and things. Sure I could make them into blocks, but that is more time spent on the particular project.

I don't know if I like the new rates, too.

This is the main problem for me - you may get 25%, you may get more - but you may even get 1 platinum ore out of 100 squares.

The lowering of stone rates is ok for me - but ores should drop like in pre 34.08.

that's the problem, you need to make blocks now.   Besides it will help increase your fort worth.

Personally, I like the new, flat-rate system. I don't feel any kind of need to have a single legendary miner.
Then again, for some reason my one fort that does have one miner keeps having weird accidents happen to him, and only him. Dropping a staircase on himself, having mugs dumped on hs head, weird stuff like that.

He's a dorf. The closer he gets to perfection, the more Armok desires his sacrifice.

I think new system are more real for stone BUT! I have to notice the metal extraction is kind of strange. I think, when dorfs dig out ore-tile it has to drop ore-species (in 75%, for example) which will be processed into metal bars (4 ores in 1 bar but not 1 ore into 4 bars)!

This does seem to be a legitimate problem for things like plat. veins, or anything else that appears in small quantities. Doesn't seem nearly as fun as other punishing applications of randomness in this game.
