Would This Idea Make For Some AWESOME Goblin Ambushes?
« on: May 17, 2012, 08:14:51 pm »

It just hit me that the goblins should ride on the back of land animals that could kill anybody who stepped in the way (like a Hell's Angel on a motorcycle), beat the shit out of their victims and ride off with the stolen loot. To top it off, the animals should make loud noises, so that EVERYBODY can hear them coming.

I meant that it would be awesome if we had goblins that acted like a gang of bikers.

This is dwarf fortress, not Gangster's Alley.

I don't see how this would be significantly different than a smaller siege. would the combat logs include "the motohog roars" on every line? Seems like it would be difficult to make interesting in a 2d top down fantasy economy simulator.

What the f*** is a motohog?

Anyway, I was thinking that the goblin "gang" could be outlaws that were outcast from their society, so they have to live by stealing from everybody else (and giving them horrible beatings). The name of the gang should be randomly generated. This would be different because with goblin ambushes, the goblins have somewhere to go home to. These guys don't, so they would be more likely to stick around and cause trouble. On the flip side, you can gain their respect by killing soldiers from the goblin society that they came from (because they hate them more than you do) and they may (posibly) become friendly military units that will protect your land.

Goblin outcasts?  Were these the goblins that wouldn't slit a dwarf mother's throat when ripping the baby out of her arms?  Don't sound too dangerous to me.

Maybe Human or Elf bandits would work.  I'm surprised I haven't had any attack me considering that in Adventurer mode the world is full of them.

Actually, it might make things interesting, like the human civilization gives you tribute or something as a reward for killing one of their bandits, so the neighboring civilization do more than just bring trade goods (or forbid you from chopping wood).

While  I don't think the idea of Goblin Gangsters is appropriate for vanilla DF, trampling attacks sounds fun.
Would give people a reason to fear elephants again.

Trampling with the possibility of killing could be entertaining.  Goblin Hell's Angels or Third Street Saints would just be cheesy and lame.

The goblins have been outcast because it is illegal to ride a "motohog" (whatever the HELL that is) in Goblin City (noise violation)...

If you think about it, human bandits sound like a good idea, but elves? Come on man!!!

On a serious note, I've figured a way to implement this suggestion without beng rediculous:

Have ambushes sometimes bring mounts.

With the way things are going with this thread, it's surpriing that ANYBODY is taking this (somewhat) seriously...
