Do i know you, migrant guy's? I DO!!!!
« on: May 17, 2012, 01:24:28 pm »

I just started a new fort and i just got my first migrant wave and i look at the migrants and i see that they have the skills of the dwarf's i normally take at the the embark ???.
After i take a look at the names is see that are the names of some dwarfs i had at an embark on an nearby site :o. But i abandon directly because it had an !20! layers thick aquifer. :'( (This should be changed)
And i kooks like they have migrated to here!
Is this normal?

Yes, dwarves don't vanish when a site is abandoned, the world keeps track of all of them. Heck, there's plenty of reports of people having their old retired adventurers immigrate to later fortresses.

I've had a number of dwarves from abadoned fortresses. It has been very handy at times when the mason or smith from my current fort dies then he shoes up from my abandoned one in the next wave.

Huh, this seems to be (yet another!) good incentive for sticking with a world for a while, instead of constantly and spontaneously genning new worlds all the time, which is what I normally do.

I haven't seen this in the newest version yet, but in 0.34.07 immigrants who needed a crutch to walk would arrive without one, and be stranded at the map edge for a while.  So, yes, it's a great feature, but also a bit bugged.  (Unless it's been fixed in .08 or .09.)

I recently had my first migrant wave consist partly of 6/7 of the Starting Seven from an abandoned attempt at settling the same site. It made me wonder what happened to the seventh...

It saved me from having to train legendary miners all the time in versions before the drop rate changes. In mature forts I usually have 4 legendary armorers and weapon smiths, and it was always nice to see those - and let's not forget the militia I spent years on to train to a decent skill level.

So yeah, abandoning forts actually has a reason, instead of destroying the fort.

Or the necromancers. All hail retired adventurers, ready to be weaponized :D

So I could potentially do a bunch of adventurers, train them up to legendary whatevers, then retire them and they'd show up in my embarks as immigrants? Time to build up my legendary immigrant army!
