Having trouble modding diplomacy messages
« on: May 16, 2012, 11:52:31 pm »

I already found the WTF tools, but they don't seem to work right for me.

If I don't specify an output file,
Code: [Select]
wtf2txt.exe diplomatrebuffed
it prints the tags to the command prompt, but when I give it a file name
Code: [Select]
wtf2txt.exe diplomatrebuffed diplomatrebuffed.txt
it just creates an empty file.

Has anyone done this recently?  Any pointers?

Isn't there another pram? the index?
Quote
txt2wtf

Creates a WT file from a text file.

Usage: txt2wtf [-x] <filename> <output file>

If the -x flag is specified, output will be encoded like an index file.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

wtf2txt

Extracts text from a WT file.

Usage: wtf2txt [-x] <filename> [<output file>]

If the -x flag is specified, input is assumed to be encoded like an index file.
If no output file is specified, output will be sent to StdOut.
Never used this before

Try these: http://dffd.wimbli.com/file.php?id=3895

Funny, I was just talking with deon about changing the diplomats texts, so that elves and maybe even my custom drow can have a new text, and not a copy of the human traders.

There's not a whole lot you can actually change, since all of the diplomat stuff is hardcoded:
* Non-trade diplomats use either ELVES_STANDARD (index line 17) or HUMAN_STANDARD (index line 14), based on whether or not the civilization has [TREE_CAP_DIPLOMACY].
* Trade diplomats use either DWARF_LIAISON (index line 15) or HUMAN_TRADE (index line 16), presumably based on whether or not it's from your own civilization.

P.S. If you don't get this note, let me know and I'll write you another.
It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.

Thanks quietust, I was hoping for a custom addition, but that cleared it up. It still is an interesting insight in the rabbit hole that is DF.

@D_E: I know that deon managed to mod these files for his apocalypse TC, with Greetings from the CentralVault and such, so if you really cant get it to work, ask him. Mind that I just did that a few days ago myself, I hope he wont mind answering the same things twice ^^

You have to run cmd.exe on windows, and then type the name of the program and the file you want to undat into the command line.

Didn't work for me.

The file uncompressed oddly ("random" symbols and no line returns), when I tested the re-compressed file I got:
Quote
Text generation failed: data/announcement/fortressintro

Are these the tools Deon said he used?

Yes, those are the ones. I personally havent got the time to run it myself. Too distracted with 34.08 and 34.09, with win, mac and linux. The horror... ;)
