The last mug was placed by the acolyte within the fort. At that moment, it seemed as if red flash and a deep laugh filled the entire region, and was gone. The acolytes backed away as they saw the mugs start to fill with a thick, crimson fluid, and then stop at the rims. The seeds were sown, but what terrible fruit would they yield?

(Well, I'm ready for the timeskip)

Wierd didnt say anything to Roead. He just gave him an exasperated nod to the affirmative. What was in that box could rot forever inside.

"Thanks Roead. Keep that box hidden. I'm going back upstairs; I got some work to do. Try not to give yourself mildew drinking booze, ok?"

Roead just grumbled something inaudible under his breath that vaguely sounded like acceptance. He didnt have too many people he could call friends in this place. Pretty much just him, Hugo, and possibly Gizogin... Oh shit! Pills!

"Shit! I need to drop off Gizogin's aspirin stock! I'll come back to chat later, ok?"

"Right-oh. If you find a way for mummies to get drunk, let me know straight away."

Wierd started heading back upstairs, with a simple "I will!" over his shoulder. He was going to drop off that shipment of pills, then lock the door to his room. Those plans were burning a hole in his backpack.

[ok, we could probably do the time skip now.]

[Wanted to go look at the tower first. I'd have had us skipped ahead by now, but somehow we've continued this day in the story for several pages.]

[Damn, Weird went offline again. I guess I'll talk to him in-story when he delivers the pills, then we might finally be ready to skip ahead.]

How far, two weeks or a month? If Zanzetkuken is going to royally screw us then I'd suggest a month.

[2-3 months? :D

If Zannie is going to royally screw us, I'm sure we'd all rather have the defenses ready, including artillary pieces, self-repairing magma/water checkerboard walls underground, and trained warriors of all disciplines. If the mayor would be so kind as to request the mountainhomes send us an army... We need more than just a month.]

[The mountainhomes would never send us an army as we are now.  We'd need to establish good relations with them, and we'd need a better-organized government.  That's going to take a couple months at least, during which time we can work in our static defenses.]

[Oh, I should have mentioned this in my last post, but it's likely that Gizogin/Gizo X asked Cog Wrathhammer to put in a good word for this fortress with the king.  That'll hopefully help things along.]

It would take a few months for any goods/armies/news to go back and forth across the sea anyhow. Probably a 4 month round-trip. Isn't Cog Wrathhammer from another DF world?

As for domestic defenses, I don't think a lava checkerboard would work as well. We should think of something more... modern. I'd recommend murderholes and pillboxes. We'd be untouchable. We could also mine limestone or volcanic ash to make concrete with, and build rebar walls. Those would be a lot more durable than brittle obsidian. I'm thinking something like this. Never mind the connotations based on who built them IRL, it would be very effective.
