Weird didn't care how the gods damned wall managed to $#@^ EAT the damned pillowcase. He just wanted the &^%#-ing pillow!

Angrily, he pulled on the pillowcase as hard as he could.

The wall moved slightly, and a barely audible "click" came from inside it.

A section of the wall, cleverly concealed, stood out in faint releif against the rest of the wall; the bed neatly pushed up against it.

Hopping up on the bed, and gently pushing on the wall, it slid freely, pushed in quite deeply, then retracted sideways behind the rest of the wall towards the right revealing a door-like opening leading into blackness.

"Fucking typical." He growled. Typical that zanz would play freaking batman, and put a secret door in his room. 'Probably for sneaking out on clandestine trysts with firebreathing dragons.' He thought to himself wryly.

He didn't feel like exploring whatever perverted kinky secrets that zanz had deemed necessary to hide so intently, and just wanted some pillows.  Giving the retracted wall a shove in the direction it had slid, it clicked again, then slid back into place, this time catching a corner of the bedsheet instead of the pillowcase.  Whatever. It didn't matter. He *would* enjoy telling eric about this later though.  Right now, he just wanted some damned sleep.  Grabbing up all 4 pillows, he hurried out the door and to his room before the rest of the fortress population showed up asking stupid questions about the pillows he was carrying.

'No questions! Just sleep!' He muttered inaudibly. His mind started going strange directions when he didn't sleep right, and he hated the feeling.

Slipping back in his room, he slid the privacy bolt down, and secured the door. NO INTERRUPTIONS! He had a dinner date with the sandman, and all other appointments could fuck off.

Quickly, and without interruption he threw the stolen pillows onto the bed, threw himself on top of them, and was soundly unconcious mere moments later.

There should be something similar in your room.  You know what I said about the fully-stocked lab that you have no clue about, since you are using a different lab that Eric dug out.  Most elements you need should be in there.

Don't let Eric see the forge-bot, or my notes on planeswalker sparks.  You know what might happen.  Oh, and feel free to help yourself to the equipment in there.

Oh, Eric, those are different smaller conflicts.  That does not include the resistance cells I have set up.  All the troops that are captured by the Phyrexians are killed, but the ones I capture are cured of Phyrexis, then sent back as resistance cells, within a facsimile of Phyrexis.  Also, besides the major battles, the free dragon army is using modern day guerilla tactics.

Corai, I am no longer using that, so go ahead!

I can only imagine how much of a hypocrite Weird will think Eric to be if he ever finds out about the centipedes. What right has he to call Weird out about Peepers? XD

HugoLuman did not sleep well. He saw his head mounted on a mantlepiece, Corai sitting in an expensive plush chair by the fire laughing. Steel-plated cyborgs with cold metal faces marched down the corridors, met in opposition by writhing centipedes, killing all between them. He was leaning over Weird's shoulder, looking through one of Thari's books. Suddenly, Weird stabbed him through the neck with a knife and turned around. In place of Weird's face was the visage of his clockwork counterpart.

Weird woke up in a sweat.

He had what he could only decribe as a fever dream. The kind that make no sense, and which the dreamer has no control over.

He had been in his lab, working, and trying to sanitize thari's accursed books with hugo's help, but cyborgs and giant bugs kept killing people in the hall, and threatening to destroy everything.

Suddenly, something was wrong, and he looked at hugo's face only to see a vampiric leech. A disgusting, hooked scolex wrapped in inky blackness trying to suck on his neck.  He clamored on his table for anything he could grab, and his hand fell on a large knife. Why it had been on his desk, he had no idea, but there it was.  Desperately, he had tried to stab the attached scolex in the neck, black inky blood spraying everywhere, but he couldn't get it off.

His heart raced as he kept stabbing, only to wake up, sweaty and terrified, flailing one of his stolen pillows as it laid on his neck.

He walked over to his workbench, pulled the top off the bottle of distilled labgrade ethanol, and downed the whole bottle.

He would try to sleep again when the shakes went.

-Okaaaaaay, I am assuming were doing a dream montage.-

Corai shot awake, drawing his dagger. He looked around, nothing diffrent. And Frigulish was still hanging from a tree, keeping the bogeymen away. His dream, as far as he could make out, was him watching a battle of cyberdwarves and centipedes, with the forumites either dead at his feat or transformed into cyberdwarves. He had to admit, it was a wonderful dream.

Hugo is vampire leeching joykill, with permission. Eerily paralleled dreams, but with different subconcious spin depending on the dreamer could be a possible side effect.

Hugo could percieve weird as pure evil on a subconcious level, due to his lack of a functioning conscience.  Weird may percieve hugo as a threat to his survival on a subconcious level, do to the spiritual parasitism. The fact that weird will never age, and thus can't be really hurt by hugo's attachment means nothing. Rational thought is not the realm of the subconscious where dreams live.  Hugo may be paranoid about weird becoming super evil like his dispatched half, due to his condition, which explains why hugo sees him that way in the dream.

Oliolli slept through the night tightly, with strange dreams involving different types of creatures chopping off his limbs, only to have them grow back moments later.

He walked over to his workbench, pulled the top off the bottle of distilled labgrade ethanol, and downed the whole bottle.

Enjoy your hangover...

I'm a dwarf. I drink nothing but alcohol.

Its like drinking koolaid.

(Also, its at most 4 oz. The "methlab" on the table is using easy to fab equipment, and only has the reagents that he produced the day before. You don't get a whole lot of alcohol from triple distillation using a shitty glass retort.)

Also that high levels of stress can cause either nightmares or insomnia. That is why I figured there would be nightmares, what with all the trauma and still adjusting to a strange physiology. It would make sense for weird to share parts of the dream though. ninja'd 2x

HugoLuman found himself in his old body; human once again. Looking closer, though, he saw that his skin was made of clear glass, hair-width cracks forming with each small movement of breath or heartbeat. He tried to hold still, but he felt an itch growing inside his nose. It soon became unbearable, though he strained not to move. In horror, though, he felt the sneeze coming on, and when it did he felt his skin shatter, the razor-sharp shards lacerating his exposed, raw tissues.
Blinking, he found himself in a very different place. The sky was black and red with smoke. The land outside the fort was covered with scorch marks and bare dust patches, and pitted with zig-zagging deep trenches. A horde of dwarves and humans, wearing gas-masks and helmets, rushed out against another group of humans and dwarves in uniform. As they were gunned down, gas-masked officers from each side began gesturing, commanding their fallen to rise again to win an advantage, but it was hopeless. Each side had as many officers, and as soon as soldiers lurched to their feet they were gunned down again, until there was nothing left that could be forced to move. Canisters of poison gas were unstopped, flooding trenches with mist that turned the soldiers into dried husks, but even the industrial militarization of all the aspects of this world could not give either side an advantage.
It was then that the roc swooped from above, to be split in twain by a great, flying, black metal shape. It's engines droned as it tore through the sky, dropping a great metal capsule. When it hit the ground, there was an unimaginably bright light and an unfathomably powerful force.
Next, he was back in the dining hall. Only something was not right. He could see himself; disembodied. The dragon suddenly snarled, a look of bestial rage on it's face - his face. It decapited Eric with one sweep of his tail, then lunged on Gizogin, tearing his throat out. The other Gizogin beat it over the head with a chair, but the dragon only whipped around an melted the clockwork body with a fiery blast. Next it rounded on Weird, who was for some reason wearing his suit. He raised the nozzle, but a swipe of claws punctured the tank and cut the tubing. As it moved to devour Weird, HugoLuman screamed at himself, but could only watch as he killed all his friends.

[But everybody knew about the centipedes. How the hell could you miss them? A pair of 8-foot monsters I had to drag through the halls on tiny leashes to get them to the caverns. Even if you weren't paying attention, someone would have mentioned it in conversation...

And I rather like genetic experimentation. I'd demand to know how the hell he managed to get ahold of Peepers, and why he didn't choose to reverse-engineer therapod dinosaurs instead. That would have taken more time and multiple experiments, but a far more rewarding final product, I'd think.]

Dinosaurs are extinct or nonexistant in DF. Beak dogs don't count, Word of Toad says so. Maybe a reasonable fascimile could be created, though.

[Weird was not in or near the fortress for the centipede fiasco. He was too busy cleaning up the mess at the microcline tower. He knows nothing of the centipedes, and nobody has mentioned them to him. That you would mis-use peepers, or outright kill him, is exactly why weird is trying to keep him a secret from you. :D as for why weird didn't try to reverse evolve peepers further? The genetic broom closet carried by modern species has moth-eaten DNA. The method used causes random recombinations, relocations, deletions, and transcription errors. Chickens still have genes for socketed teeth, but they are turned off by more recent regulation genes. Peepers has an unstable genome. He wasn't meant to reproduce, and isn't a dinosaur... he's a horrible mutant chicken that's been tampered with by magical means in a clumsy, and only partially directed fashion. Weird does *not* want eric finding out about thari's books. He will burn the things before he willingly let's eric have them. He considers eric to be a mousefart away from going batshit, and mindcrushing and killing everyone in the fortress, and giving him that kind of power is soul chilling scary to him. He will keep peepers a secret as long as possible, and try to make a compelling lie about how he managed it. Probably stick with the story he told zanz, that way it stays consistent, because changing the story with different people is how you get caught.]

--------

Weird woke up drenched in sweat a second time.

He tried to remember what he had been dreaming about.  Like all attempts at recalling dreams, the ending came to mind first, and had to be worked backward to get to the beginning.

Hugo had gone crazy in the dining hall and had eaten him.  But before that...

He concentrated.

He had gone to the dining hall, because of the commotion. Hugo had caused a commotion in the dining hall by going on a rampage.... why? He couldn't recall....

Before that he had been showing other dwarves something... what was it? It was huge, and made of white porcaline, with shiny metal strapping... it had smelled like... like... nitrate. That's right. He was showing off the ostwald furnace he had helped eric design.. but why?

The fortress needed explosives.. because..... there was a war going on. Eric had been putting geases on him to reveal everything he knew about explosive devices, and to assist him completely and without hesitation or reservation. .....he remembered spilling the beans, with an eager, oblivious smile everythhing he knew about the manhattan project, uranium refinement, historic warhead designs, and modern hydrogen bombs.....

the realization that the ostwald reactor was the *least* of the dangerous things he had been blissfully and obliviously helping eric make in that dream dawned on him, and he wondered why he hadn't woken up sooner!  He had discussed calutrons vs centrifuges, and ways to chemically rfine uranium metals from pitchblende... gods... he was glad it was only a dream.

...kinetic detonators used on little boy... heavy hydrogen synthesis....

He shook.  He didn't have any more alcohol on the table... and he wasn't sure drinking it the last time had helped anything.  If anything, the dreams had been even more disturbing.

He slipped on the pigtail slippers he had been gifted after his hospital stay, and slipped out into the cold fortress air.  It was dark. The sconces weren't lit in the hallways, because it was designated nighttime.  Underground, you lost track of what time of day it was without subtle little reminders like that.

Not even thinking about where he was going, he just let his feet carry him, as he took a walk through the desolate hallways to clear his head.
