[Please no portal shock troops. We'd be dead in 3 seconds. If they could do that, they'd have done it already.]

Hugo considered. "Maybe, but not just yet. I have a plan. I may have to scrap it, as leaving Weird alone too long might be dangerous, but then again I trust him enough to remain sane for just long enough. And I'm sorry, but I can't tell you what it is Zanzetkuken. They might probe your mind or something. I shouldn't have even told you that there was a plan."

"Hold up, Hugo.  I thought about what has been happening, something is wrong.  If this was a true siege, they would have used shock troops deployed through portals, and we would already be dead.  It is as if they wanted us to see them coming.  I have no idea what this means."

"It could be one of 2 things. Intimidation. We've not gotten the whole blitzkrieg because there is no strategic value in this place for them. Either that or having a few planeswalkers here provides a sort of barrier against that sort of thing."

Or be 60 pages of nothing and then it ends in them leaving with Zanzetkuken's head.-

[We are by far NOT READY to withstand a battle of this magnitude. We really do have to think of another way out of this than fighting.]

"No, otherwise it wouldn't have worked against...wait a minute...That explains it!  The corruption of the masters, the force behind it, everything!"

-You under estimate yourself Hugo, we have a

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

And three cyberdwarves. I alone took out most of a draconic security team, that shows you how crappy these guys are trained. Obviously they fight with numbers, not skill. Unless the security team I fought WERE crappy and untrained. But meh, Zanzetkuken has something else in plan. Cant wait.

We're still on the mend from a crisis with a death toll of 1/4 our dwarves that happened only yesterday in the story, not to mention never having gotten all the way set back up again. We need a breather and more time to rebuild before we can fight.

I've got 2 pms for you Zanzetkuken.

[No lie.  While weird has piced up something "bay 12 convention" BAD as a new trick, that theoretically could turn a dragon wrongside out, or split open from internal horrors at a mere touch, using that kind of magic in his current condition is a very, very bad idea. You would trade dragons outside for a genocidal mass murderer that would make Dr Mengele look like a boyscout. With a moral center to help chart a course, he would re-write all of thari's batshit insane magic, bent to a radically different purpose, like curing fatal illnesses, congenital genetic diseases, and a comprehensive manual on ethical healing magical practice. As is, he doesn't have the time for that, or the moral imperitive to undertake the work. The best you will get from him is a sanitized, censored version of thari's text instead. Blac magic marker version, a la project blue book censored.  ]

[In his current state, if the rest of the fortress told him it was OK to nuke dragons by cancer cursing their tracheas shut, and causng them to expell their intestines through their anuses from internal swellings and growths on their peritoneal cavities, he would trust their moral jusdgement, because he doesn't really have a means of internally determining that, and would bliethely murder until one of their number offed him. If he survived, and gained a semblence of a concience from hugo later, he would probably go suicidal melancholy over what he did.]

[Though Thari's magic isn't exactly "point and you die," or warping flesh and tissue just by thinking. Wanted to avoid that kind of thing, plus it's creepier if horrible preparation, treatment, and magic reagents are required first. It is after all not divine power but merely home-grown magic. She could heal her followers and resurrect them at will only because they had been under her power for so long.]

[I was going for "requires physical skin-skin contact", making it a 1 caster, 1 target spell. Using plant juices and such would only make it EASIER for weird. The hazard suit is designed to volatize and spray deadly substances already. Just replace what goes in the tanks.]

[Still hospital.  BTW, I haven't actually been keeping close track of how many dwarves are in the hospital right now.  I don't think it can be more than ten or so, including Cog Wrathhammer.  The last time any dwarves came in in great numbers was when Cog was unearthed, and most of them checked out and left before the siege came.  If one or two more checked in with minor complaints in that time, then there'd be about eight dwarves in the hospital right now.]

Gizogin sat back in his swivel chair in his workshop, staring at his unfinished machine.  His mind was racing with ideas, most of them impossible right now.  If only he could get in touch with the other Gizogin, he might be able to figure out what was happening outside the hospital.  But, unless he suddenly gained magical powers, that wasn't going to happen.

He sat bolt upright.  Magic.  That was the answer.  Many of the other forumites were using magic in one way or another, so it had to be possible to learn it.  But wait, he didn't know anything about magic, and all the forumites who might be able to tell him were outside the hospital.  "What about Cog?" he wondered aloud.  "He's dealt with wizards and necromancers before, maybe he can tell me something about magic."

Gizogin walked out into the hospital, and saw Cog sitting on the side of his bed, his legs hanging over the side.  "Good, you're awake," said Gizogin.  "I have a few questions I want to ask you, if you're not busy."

[Need some samples first, though. If you got to the greenhouse in the tower and looked through the botany notes there, you would have some pretty nasty mutagenic and/or magic gunk to work with.]

"What do you mean, Zanzetkuken?"

[I could see it being the more powerful, more controlled approach, that made use of her many combined abilities, while general healing magic turned up to 11 has chaotic, and unpredictable results if you don't have very specific medical knowledge to go with it.  The plant juices and extracts help to guide the magically accellerated tissues, and protect them from oxidative damage, or to help disrupt specific gene sequences by blocking transcription enzymes, so that the caster doesn't need to carry around a medical library inside their heads.  Weird is an information junky. He's based on me, and I am versed in field surgury, and basic medicine already, along with supplimental interests in biochemistry and cellular biology. Pretty much all hard science is equally candylicious to me. Having access to the magic only gets you so much. Having innate skills and deep knowledge to go with it, makes it far more deadly, and precise. He probably couldn't produce another Mr Peepers, for instance. Not identically, anyway. Mr Peepers is a unique monster, created by forcing chaotic mutations, and stabilizing the result. The exact same process would result in radically different creatures.  Same with his current "reagentless" cancercurse, if he ever used it. The exact nature and malignancy of the tumors would be random. They aren't being biochemically guided by the compounds. He can still cause them, and direct where in the target he's focusing the advanced cellular turnover, but it isn't nearly is potent.]
