[I made an edit that would enable the discrepency, and still be safe for ID travel.]

The halls were empty.  That was a releif.

Hugo had told him to put the books downstairs, but he wasn't about to do that.  The suit didn't have pockets, but it *did* have a backpack!

Muttering incoherently, he shuffled the contents around so that the books rested on the bottom, and 2 sides of the sequestered reaction tank inside the bag's compartment. The top would be harder to sinch down, but rubber was stretchy.

Taking advantage of the new privacy of the room, he shut the door, and stripped down to his underwear, and dusted himself all over in powdered chalk. Getting into the suit without proper preparation was a sure recipie for galded skin, or worse.

The suit fit like a glove. Literally.

He stretched out the arms and legs, pushing against the wall like a marathon runner. God the new suit felt good. He hoped he wasn't developing a rubber fettish.

Checking the action on the recycled piledriver one last time, he embarked on his perilous enterprise.

The army looked at Hugo, not knowing what to do. As long as I keep talking, they won't kill me.

"Okay! See this fort, RIGHT HERE! You are about to attack it, aren't you? You're gonna GO IN, and RANSACK AND PILLAGE AND WHATNOT! And FOR WHAT? To kill one man and some REFUGEES! You are going to BURN THIS PLACE to the ground, just because whoever's IN CHARGE OF YOU LOT TOLD YOU IT'S HARBORING FUGITIVES! Well, I'VE GOT BAD NEWS FOR ALL OF YOU! There are NO FUGITIVES HERE! Okay, well, that's not true; every last person in there IS A REFUGEE. Down to EVERY MAN WOMAN AND CHILD! So are all the people in that tower over there, and in that kobold camp! Yes, I'll grant that there ARE REFUGEES here. But they're NOT THE ONE'S YOU'RE LOOKING FOR!"

Forgive me for this, Zanzetkuken. "Now, I KNOW WHO YOU'RE AFTER! THE ONE MAN IS HERE! If you've got a problem, TAKE IT UP WITH HIM! But DON'T SLAUGHTER AN ENTIRE SETTLEMENT JUST TO FIND ONE MAN! Now, why don't you all GO HOME AND COME BACK WHEN YOU'RE READY TO TALK SENSE!"

HugoLuman stopped yelling, breathing heavily. The assorted troops simply stared at him. I am so going to die now, he thought.

The Hugoluman used confuse!
It's super effective!

Eric sat in the control room bunker, peering through the eyes of a dead but intact zombie bird at the scene below. Some dragon with a white 'H' sloppily painted on it's side, probably Hugo just from how ridiculously clumsy it was, was standing in front of the army, yelling at them. This can only turn out worse than a protest against the Chinese government, he thought. He didn't have any zombie army, no trained soldiers, no machinations, literally nothing keeping these dragons out but the front gate, currently lowered, and which was the only thing he could control from here besides some zombie vermin scattered around the fort to keep tabs on it. The cyborgs could certainly put a dent in the first couple lines, but there was no way he was going to trust them. They'd jump at the chance to join the siege. Get your ass inside before they do, you moron, he gestured uselessly at the image of Hugo.

The cyborg prisoners, bound hand and foot, sat unnervingly still the entire time they had been captive. They could probably break their restrains with ease, but for some reason they just... didn't. Perhaps they knew that even if freed, they couldn't overcome the entire fortress. Perhaps they were just waiting for the right moment to strike.

"We estimate that in pitched battle, the survival chances of this population are nearly 0. We also deem it highly probable that the hostile force would likely be indiscriminate in attacks. Therefore, we state that if this secure area is opened to engage the enemy or if it is breached, we believe it would further our survival prospects to ally with the defenders here."

The fortress was empty. Or, at least the hallways and main work and living areas were. By now the fortress's remaining population was probably holed up in the panic room, pulling their panties out of their asses.

He wandered the hall towards the dining hall and the food stockpile, hoping to grab an unguarded snack.  Then he saw him.

HIM.

His eyes narrowed into tiny slits, and his voice lowered to a slow, cursing, and accusatory tone.

"................this is the second time that the big and scaly things outside have caused trouble.........and once again, I find you in the middle............"

He smiled wickedly, and viciously. It was practically a snarl.

"I've got some new tricks this time, imp......  you have 10 seconds to start explaining why you are  here. Last I heard, you were a 'guest' of those foul breathed oafs, now start talking... or so help me, I'll make an exception on my ethical practices writ large with your bloated and malformed corpse."

"He's with us lad!" Shouted a dwarf he had failed to notice. "We done heard 'bout ye and he havin a blood fued, but now aina th'e time!"

Weird turned to the dwarf, cold eyes like those found only in the vampiric undead focusing on him.

"Talk."

The dwarf looked at one of his companions with a bewildered look. "Is he always lik' dat?" The other dwarf shrugged. "Dunno. Creepy bloke's always cooped up by 'imself. Always right sour too."

His left eye twitched in his characteristic nervous twitch of surpressed rage.

The kobold in the business suit deftly reached a hand inside his vest.

"This creepy bloke hasn't slept in two days, because certain stupid blokes keep raining death and destruction from the skies." He intoned sourly.

"Not our fault mate!" Said the now sheet white dwarves, reaching behind them for broken off chair legs. "Its that bloody plainswalker's whatshisface, what with all his dirty dealin and cheatin and whathavya."

"So..........the imp is not involved?...."

"Naye mate. Just that dragon flappin feller."

The twitching of the left eye stopped, and the marble crisp features of repressed violence eased off his fascade.

The silence lasted several seconds before he answered.

"Good."  He straightened, stern displeasure still dripping off his tone. "Where is Eric?"

"He's douwn sta'rs whit' all t'e women and chil'en." Mocked one of the motley group. "Too chick'n shit te' come an' play whit' us big boys!"

The anger broke.  That was damn funny, and he laughed. Corai's hand slipped out of his jacket.

"Ok, so what's in the dining hall that needs 5 armed dwarves and a psychopathic, kleptomaniac, troublemaking imp to guard it?" He asked jovially.

Corai looked dour. "I missed you too, JOYKILL." He mocked, in his shrill, squeeky voice.

Weird simply smiled knowingly at him.... oh.... the things he could do to that little shit now.... oh....

Mrhappyface wandered the lonely halls, looking for a smith. The meteoric steel yearned for a hammer to shape it and Mrhappyface would not let such fine materials go to waste at a novice.

It seemed to be surprisingly calm, when you expected to die at any moment. When death was a foregone conclusion. Thus it was much to HugoLuman's surprise that instead of killing him on the spot, one of the large dragons detatched from the army and approached the fortress.

"Come out and hear our parley, lest we destroy this place in our impatience! We demand that you turn over any and all fugitives who have defied the will of the Four Masters! We know for sure that the traitor Zanzetkuken is among you!"

-I go and play Minecraft for one hour and Joykill realizes I am alive. :D-

"Well, you know this big emergency going on? Yeah, we got something worse behind these walls." The kobold said, pointing at the giant wall of tables.

"Well. Hell itself. Lucifer. Ten billion mes. A entire army of dragons. Zanzetkuken, and ten billion clones of him. A female version of you." the kobold said.

Weird stared.

"Fluffballs. Little demonic fluffballs. And I wasnt a "guest." I was kidnapped because A CERTAIN NECROMANCER went insane and I had to keep him from exploding and killing us all. As cyborgs tried to kidnap me."

"Whatever, forget it Joykill. Whats important is that noone. Touches. This. Door." the kobold said, spacing out every word. "Not even you can even SCRATCH these demons. You would be ash in seconds, and the rest of the fort."

One of the larger dragons approached the gates, demanding Zanzetkuken, demanding they negotiate. Fine. If the double-crosser was stupid enough to betray the nation that trusted him, and to betray his own forumite brethren prior, walking back expecting to be accepted with open arms, then he was getting what he deserved and the draconic threat to their lives would disappear. Eric could negotiate, and Zanzetkuken would probably challenge this officer to a duel anyway. What refugees they were searching for he didn't know, but negotiating in their defense would be as easy as walking outside, and flatly telling the commander, Mental Thralldom applied judiciously, they simply weren't there, or anywhere nearby as far as any of the fortress population knew.

The little undead bird flew down and came to rest on the commander's halberd, and squacked a barely comprehensible "Negotiators will be here in a few minutes; it's a very long walk." The commander seemed confused and horrified, but muttered "Fine."

Eric unlocked the hatch to the control room, and stepped down the ladder, called on Cog and his mining team, told them to suit up in military armor and bring their picks, and wait behind the entryway to shut the gate and keep it clear if all hell broke loose. The kittens informed him that the 25-dwarf militia was already forming just out of site at the bottom of the ramps. Joykill and Corai were around the new dining hall with a small guard, but weren't moving out towards the gates yet. Happyface had mysteriously appeared too, but was wandering around the forge level, seemingly oblivious to the emergency bells. Eric grabbed his pick and his favorite iron helm, called over Ironblood and Vemini, and strode out to collect the others before going to meet the commander. The only one not invited would be Roead, because there was literally no way he could keep himself calm for the discussion like a respectable adult.

Roead is just in a bad mood. In life he was a trader, and that made him a Great Negotiator, as well as a Proficient Judge of Intent (rusty).

No, that doesn't leave a very good impression on people.]

Um, Eric, you realize that I am only here because of the fact that Hugo is linked to me, and that I did not help the refugees besides giving them information on how to escape and the rest of the dragons do not know that.

Hugo, you realize that if I leave, you will die due to the amount of energy I need to send to you increases across distance, which would eventually kill us both.

[They are deployed by whatever realm Zanzetkuken came from, and seeing as they are elves, humans, and kobolds, they likely came from Dwarf Fortress worlds in the first place. Not entirely sure about those dragons, though. Does MTG even allow for exotic physics in any of it's planes?]

Did you read this?
Quote from: mtg salvation wiki
A plane is a self-contained world or universe of any size found within the multiverse. While planes can be governed by any conceivable set of rules and natural laws, or even indeed inconceivable ones, most planes visited in the storyline are comfortably similar to Earth.

Quote from: mtg salvation wiki
There are almost infinite planes in the multiverse, separated from each other by the space known as Blind Eternities which is filled with chaotic energies, including Æther and mana. The inhabitants of most of these planes have no idea that theirs is not the only universe, or indeed the only world—generally only planeswalkers know that, and are able to travel intentionally between planes.

Planes are known to "move" in relation to each other. Additionally new planes are constantly created, while others drift out of existence.

Quote from: mtg salvation wiki
There are also artificial planes, worlds created usually by planeswalkers with sheer will. The creator of such a world define all of its rules. These planes however, are unstable and eventually collapse if there is nothing what would sustain their existence (like constant flow of mana, or technical means like flowstone).
