"Sorry Giz, kitchen's not ready to play 'guess the chemical' just yet. I don't even have any indicator dyes in here! Couldn't even tell you the pH at this point! Just hold on to whatever sample you got, put it in a sealed box, and come see me in....oh... a month or so."

He turned back to hugo, huddled rediculousy in the corner opposite the worktable.

"Story of my life. Constant interruptions! I should just remove the doorknob or something, or ask gizogen for a clockwork duplicate just to run people off. I haven't even slept right since we moved in this new madhouse! I've slept in that bed...oh....once I think."

Hugo made a twisted semblance of a pained expression, realizing that his presence was yet another of those interruptions.

"Oh, calm down. It'll take at least an hour for those acids to cook up, and I can crush up these bones for calcination while we talk.  Just stay there in the corner, and don't sneeze fire or anything, and it'l be fine."

Hugo didn't look to sure.

"Now.. about those books.  Thari's early works shouldn't be too dangerous for general reading. Since she started out as a druid, an educated guess would put the books on healing and apothicary medicine in her "early" period.  A little sanitization and a rewrite, and most of the useful stuff in there should be safe for the general public... though I am hesistant to endorse that view publicly without seeing just *how* much time she spent describinng poisons."

Hugo's eyes brightened. (A strange thing to witness with unblinking reptilian eyes. How hugo managed to sleep like that was a mystery. Maybe later he would make hugo a sleeper's mask.)

"The book about inanimate fusion I am more dubious about. That's not the sort of thing I personally would like to see passed around the fortress like a sleezy porno. Cybernetically augmented dwarves are bad enough. We don't need them having flesh made of inert inorganic substances that are resistant to everything as well. The less people like jerry walking around, the better i'd feel."

He resumed crushing and grating bone fragments on the porphyry, talking as if absently.

"But the book on true ressurection is flat out bad. Its too great a violation of divine magics, and could possibly infuence people to seek out a necromancer's slab for all the wrong reasons. Frankly, there's a reason why ghosts don't normally come back from the afterlife. Forcing them to come back involuntarily is completely unethical, and people who would demand it for loved ones are selfish, and uncaring about the wishes of the deceased. If ghosts want to come back, they already can. There's not a whole lot stopping them. Ghosts come back all the time. The problem is in forcing a ghost to come back against its will. Doing that gets you on the shit list of at least 2 dieties, and possibly more. Its totally forbidden candy."

I keep tabs on it due to the refugees that are there.  I'll upload a new map when I get home.  All I can say is that the dragon civ is on the move, and preparing to attack.  Remember:  I'M NOT THE GRAND EMPEROR ANYMORE!

Oh, well that's perfect, because a trio of your nations' spies/thieves showed up last night to torch the place and killed three dwarves, then showed up later to kill yet another, and now I'm scared I won't be able to defend my fortress against the firebrething menace. More on that in a bit!

Eric heard one of the most hideous sounds of his life coming from right behind him; the sound of the overzealous, hot-headed, double-crossing double-traitor and murderer of the nth degree, Zanzetkuken, asking to speak to him. No doubt to brag once again about how aweome he felt in all his supernatural glory. This was going to be painful, and possibly lethal if he still remembered what Eric had said the night of the cyborg invasion, or that he'd locked them all outside for 12 hours.

"What is it?" He said with a snarl, scowling at his ☼pond turtle roast, ♂☼.

[Not to be rude, Zanzetkuken, but my character didn't like your meddling LAST week, when you were still in charge of the dragons' armies and torched the countryside just for fun and to punish tiny kobolds for insulting you telepathically.]

Ah yes, the end of my reign, before my character realized that corruption was affecting him.

"Did you know I was no longer Grand Emporer of the civilization?  I want that in your mind when I tell you this next fact.  The masters of that civilization are about to launch an assault upon this fort.  A condition for helping HappyFace escape from the citadel was to bring refugees with him to be sheltered in the microline tower.  Those refugees knew that the masters were becoming corrupt by an unknown force.  They needed out.  That force does not like that.  It is having the masters sending a siege here.  We had better prepare for the incoming siege.  And just so you know, they will not leave until every single being here is dead."

overzealous - when?
double-crossing double-traitor - when?
brag - I don't brag.
hot-headed - red mana effect
locked them all outside for 12 hours - don't really care about that
murderer of the nth degree - a little harsh, since they were kobolds, and I only gave the orders.

"Well, whatever we decide to do with them I'll need your help in retrieving them. No hands, you see. I doubt anyone will find them where they are right now, but I don't want to leave it up to chance. Whatever there is to learn from them should be extracted and transcribed so we can get rid of them."

[Surely you could pick a more.....original.... supervillian?  Sit down, think about what your villian is going to do, and name them accordingly.  I supposed you didn't know that sephiroth's name is a clear pun on his personality, right?  "Sephiroth", the word, is used in newage mysticism as a stand-in for chakra, or the points on the body where spiritual energy is said to accumulate. It is mostly used by khaballists, due to its similarity to the word seraph, which is a kind of angel. In khabbalic traditions, the sephera are the manifestations of divine power, and many are manifest in the creation of man, having been made in the image of god. In some khabbalist traditions, there are physical areas of the body corresponding with each of these manifestations, much like the concept of chakra, but is a totally different school of mysticism. Knowing this, its pretty clear why square named him this, and made him a broken, one-winged angel villian. So, again, just sit down and think introspectively how you want your villian to act, what characteristics that villian has, and come up with an appropriate name that encompases that. Stealing a villian is kinda trite, ya know?  If you need help, I'm a wealth of obscure arcana, and can give you some roads to look down for ideas. Just a PM away!]

That is why I edited it back to 'Unknown Force.'

I did know you weren't in charge anymore. More than one conversation to quietly listen to regarding that fact. And now your treason against them is going to get us all killed? How wonderful. I don't actually care about the politics behind this. The magma pumps still aren't ready yet,a nd the retaining walls of the fort are only 3 stories tall. How the hell are we supposed to mount enough ballistae to effectively combat a siege of winged dragons before they've torched the whole fort to the ground? Setting them up in the field isn't going to be a very good idea. Look, I'll inform the mountainhomes and have them send us an army or two, but until the-" Suddenly, a loud crash and a scream was heard from the halls outside. A woman had bumped into some sort of hideous monster; a humanoid, about six feet tall, with the features of a dragon, with mossy-green and grey scales and a head and crocodile's tail both adorned with thick, knobby protrusions, clutching a copper dagger. It snarled at her, and she ran for her life. Seeing the commotion, a pair of marksdwarves gave the call to arms and opened fire at the beast, missing. Another dwarf, a hammerman, popped around the corner and swung at it, striking it in the shoulder. The beast let loose a jet of fire, engulfing the hammerman and sending him to the ground writhing in pain as he slowly burned to death. The dragonman started climbing back up the ramps. The marksdwarves gave chase, making it to the foot of the ramps when two more dragonmen appeared at either corner of the exit, looking down. They breathed thick jets of flame, setting both rangers ablaze, as well as their comrade, somehow.

"You assholes! You set me on fire again damnit! I can't see!"

"You don't need to see, just run for it!" With that, they both ran to the north, away from the fort, spooking masons as they went but not assaulting them.

Their comrade, blinded though unharmed by the flames, ran like a headless chicken out the doors, where he found another woman who ran from him, screaming. In his blind confusion he chased after her, apparently thinking she was his comrade. "Hey! Wait for me! Water, need water! I can't see!"

The pair ran for a hundred yards west of the fortress entrance, until the woman tripped. The dragonman apparently didn't notice, and ran right by her, setting the landscape ablaze as he went.

"Oh crap" Eric said as he reached the top of the ramps to see what happened this time. The landscape was burning once again, and the woman that had been chased had to strafe far to her right to avoid being caught in the blaze. The fire break they'd built earlier wasn't going to help, since the fire had begun inside. Now everything was doomed to burn. "Everyone get inside! Quickly! Head to your quarters and do not leave!" He yelled, and dwarves began filing inside, minding the fires with caution. There was nothing to be done this time, really. Not a whole lot to lose, since everyone and everything of value was indoors within two minutes.

"I can put the fire out..." Zanzetkuken said.

"Fuck it. Let it burn. It'll clear out the dingos, at least."

Just a series of insults for the dramaz. You were pretty overzealous and hot-headed about murdering anyone that insulted you, effectively betrayed us, the remaining population of real human beings in the world filled with dumb-ass AI, then betrayed the society that trusted you as their leader, as far as my character could tell or really cares. I'm not sure if that actually qualifies as double-crossing or not. Oh well. Bragging is just thrown in for the hell of it. :P]

Corai ignored the chaos around him, dwarves screaming.

"Must be tuesday." the kobold said, taking a chair from the old dining room and running back to the dining hall.

"Kobold! Put that over there!" the lead-dwarf said, holding the doors closed. "I know where to put the chair, dwarf! Shut up!" the kobold said, leaning the chair against the door. "You three, help me with the old dining hall." the kobold said, running back to the hall with the dwarves.

[A robotic double of wierd?  We might be able to strike a deal of some kind]

Gizogin grumbled to himself.  He'd really been hoping wierd could help him.  Now he'd have to figure the powder out on his own.  At least he had no shortage of test subjects in the fortress and hospital.  With the dining hall now completely sealed for a while, he headed back to the hospital.

[Corai, I'm putting you in charge of maintaining the defenses against the fluffy menace.  Send me a messenger if anything goes wrong.]

"Ok, .. " wierd said in an almost exasperated tone.  Leaving dangerous books laying around was a recipie for disaster.  He put the porphyry down again.  At this rate, he'd never restock his supply of white phosphorus. He'd have been happier with rock phosphate, but life was giving him corpses instead... and sick miners..."Show me."

I am disappointing that there are no more trees to cut down. Oh well, at least there is plenty of rock to smelt. Mrhappyface started hauling some of the meteoric iron ore from the depths of the mines. There would be plenty of work to do. Hope Corai doesn't try to eat that poison.
