A "reverse summoning" is a crazy, stupid thing.  I am sure it would make lots of unforseen consequences, like showing evil hugo where to come through, for instance.

Next thing you know we'll be dealing with a headcrab infestation. Instead of Seven Hour War it would be Fifteen Second Scuffle.

I do not endorse bringing Gordon Freeman or any of his playmates into this.

I'm no good at telling others what to do in situations where I am not chest deep in the shit as well. Personally, i'd observe, see what's going on at the fortress, see hoardes of undead clammoring to get inside the fort through the front door, and then try to figure out why.

Smoke rising out of windows and vents would be a good indicator that "serious shit" was going down, and that it was time to put some smac down on some bitch asses.

Eric:
I catch the reference, but the event wasn't a resonance cascade... exactly.  So, no crazy combine invasion.  Maybe on the astral plane, but not here.  (The table was made of mundane material, which is "highly exotic", like the negative mass crystal sample from halflife 1, in terms of the nature of existence in the afterlife.  It really, *really* doesn't belong there. That's why it was returned to sender.  Its a "Oh fuck! Eject! Eject!" Kind of thing to get in the mail.  The path through the void traveled by incorporeal beings like souls is not safe for physical matter to travel. It tends to come apart in transit.  The table only survived the trip because of its "unique nature".  Its trip through that path may have had consequences.  Kinda like the difference between skipping a stone on a pond, and dropping a piano on it.  The table is the latter. The ripples go all over the place.

[I am currently surrounded by kittens. My house is practically having a mini-catsplosion. They've been living in my closet and now that their eyes are opened they realize there's nothing keeping them there. Which pisses off their mother.

Wierd, I always thought the crystal was important to the resonance cascade because it was directly involved with the act of teleportation more than the fact that it was foreign matter. It was used in quite a bit of the equipment on the Xen side in Blue Shift. I imagined they tunneled to Xen with terrestrial materials and studied it for quite a while before the event occurred.]

*physics hat on!*

A substance with negative mass would exhibit very "interesting" properties to a scientist. Specifically, it would conveniently solve several problems with keeping an einstein-rosen bridge upen so matter could pass through it. (Without it, resonance problems with recursive particle flow destroys the wormhole, as closed timelike curves manifest around the horizon, and the energy flux through the hole exceeds the schwartschild limit, and the neck of the wormhole slams shut.)

It was my understanding that G-man is not human at all, and is an agent provocature. He supplied black mesa with *exactly* what they needed, an antimass sample.  They were analyzing the sample when the resonace cascade occured.  I think the implication was that some form of entanglement with the portal generator powering the spectrometer array and the "super pure" antimass sample occured, causing said "unforseen consequences."

It appears that G-man did this with the full intent of plunging the earth into chaos, as he seems to be an "end justifies the means" type.  He appears to work for a group that rivals the combine, and is using the earth catastrophe to harden his secret weapon, gordon freeman, for his own purposes. Apparently to prove a point about something, given that G-man says he's had "offers" for gordan's services.

The important thing about the sample though, was that it was antimass. This is something that for all intents, *cannot* naturally exist in our universe.  The closest thing we have to the negative energy that antimass represents is the cassimir effect, and it is far too small for the required task in keeping a large portal open.

The xen border world clearly exhibits extraordinary physics, and antimass is common. That's why islands are floating and shit.

I was merely explaining why the table was "a very bad, bad thing!" To send in the mail.  That's all.

I just had to use another game's storyline to make the point.

Its arrival on the astral plane would have..........had far reaching consequences.................. which ZTG, as an ID sensitive, would have been sure to notice.

Like shooting a cannon off inside a quiet library kind of notice.

It was "what were you THINKING!?" Stupid.

He would never have done it without being manipulated by an angry goddess. ;)

[We're discussing quantum physics, while only one of us has any idea what quantum physics is. :P

Other than that some jackass is invading the fort with steel-clad cyberdorfs. Very, very tough cyberdorfs.]
-----------------------

Eric ran up to the others as they were finishing off one of the hostiles, but dsicovered that he had been pursued by three more, not including the one he had disabled. They were slow, bulky, and unintelligent, but working in groups... Their combat skills would make them extremely dangerous. Civilians were bieng escorted to Happyface's shack, from whence the monsters had come. The few skilled fighters among the dwarves had been killed when they offered resistance. It was up to the Council of the Twelfth Bay now.

Brief timeline:

At some point in the old fortress, HugoLuman creates a tardis like time machine, by exploiting the curious nature of DF cage traps. (They can apparently hold and infinite number of creatures!)

His experiments with the time machine expose him to the omnipresent "truth" of time. This causes him to go apeshit bonkers, causes a paradox, and causes him to manifest as 2 discrete beings as a result. One is the evil hugo, the other is the benevolent hugo.

Towards the end of the last fortress, the time machine malfunctions, blows up, causes a thermonuclear catsplosion by crossripping with a dimension populated excusively by nothing but cats, before exploding itself. This explosion traps evil hugo in the cat dimension with no way out.

Several weeks pass, and a new fort rises on the edge of the old one, seemingly after several decades of temporal displacement, given that whole religious orders have risen up.

ZTG's medding causes good hugo to obtain magical powers allowing him to move between dimensions at will.  As a consequence, since they are the same being, evil hugo also obtains these powers.

In an attempt to prevent the return of evil hugo, they attempt to bisect good and evil hugo. This has....undesirable effects.

Recently, eric made a deal with the "nobility god" that forces him to offer assylum to spirits if they don't want to go where they are supposed to go when their bodies die.  This is in direct contravention of the compact my character made with the death goddess to be a necromancer.  A wizard spat ensued, and a powerful magical device was sent across the void, causing unforseen consequences.  Evil hugo notices the disturbace, and uses it to return, disguised as good hugo.

Also prevously, Mr Happyface had been on a cyberpunk junky "upgrade" fest, creating cybernetic abominations.  Evil hugo is making use of Mr Happyface's equipment to forcibly alter the fortress population for his own purposes.

Now, everyone is trying to repel the cybernetic obliteration of the fortress.

[Oh jesus. I'm going to just assume I got my hands fixed at some point.]

The genral chaos had caused Splint to do what he normally does in situations he has little control over: Run like a bitch. He'd since barricaded himself in his room, and thankfully been left alone. But now seemed the right time to poke his head out and see the general mess he expected.

He wished he hadn't. Cybernetic monstrosities littered the place, blood and limbs strewn about.... It was terrible. But he had to restock on seeds and a drum for his own drink producing facility. He readied his pike and stepped out... This was not going to be fun.

[Don't forget the more important capacity to make any living organism that isn't very explicitly shielded by true divinity do exactly as I desire, and then the divinity will only only offer limited protection based on what that deity's goals are. Or the target will do something that kinda-sorta fits what I told them to do if I didn't telepathically inform them of what I actually wanted, hence the issues with Urist McPlanter standing in a closet for a few hours before I came back to talk to him and found him there. I imply that I am actively using this power when I use italics in conversation or as common sense dictates (italicizing a single word or phrase that wouldn't make sense as a command or request would probably imply I intended to add emphasis to that word.)]

Wait, wut? You mean somebody being given a second body (whether their own had died or not) or controlling their mind? Because I don't see where mind control results in ghosts unless i tell them to have an out-of-body experience or something. (which they couldn't do unless they knew how to do that, but they would still carry out the order as soon as they were able to.)

Mrhappyface emerged from his bedroom, having taken a nice enjoyable nap after a  delicious dwarfacola binge. He rubbed his eyes and yawned, listening to the usual roar of activity.
"I wonder what we're going to-oh my..."
Zombies, magic creatures, and what seemed to be crude parodies of his own sleek, augmetic creations were engaged in a pitched battle. Crusted and stinking blood, mana, and hydraulic fluid filled the air and stained the ground.
He immediately slammed the door shut as a stray spell went in his direction.
"What the heck is happening! I don't remember giving them so much mechanical augmentation! 90% of my stuff is subdermal chips and implants!"
