"That lady was a human, or at least looked like one, and never gave a name. Convinced Thari that she was some kind of goddess, told her to change her ways. It took a while, but eventually Thari listened. Well, I'd always been her most loyal friend. I was sworn to protect her, kind of a body guard. Naturally, when she was cast out of our society, I had to follow her as she sailed away. We landed here. Thari started to do some research based on what her Goddess told her. Then began the experiments. I'll never forget that day. I was the first, well the first successful one anyway. The first graft."
Vemini patted the metal plate of his chest. "That traitor, ignoring our life-long friendship, just strapped me to a table one day. She had mastered healing magic at that point, and as she welded my old suit of armor to my skin, she kept me alive and screaming through all of it. Well, after me she went on to the other 20 or so that came with us. Since then she's just been picking up stray elves. She ceased to be an elf one day, and became only an unholy... thing. They've all been thralls to her since the day they came through that door, except for one. Yes, once she tried to make one her apprentice! He ran away, though, and sailed away. Since then we never heard of him."
"So, that is my tale of the last few years. I suppose now you'll have to do something about the other elves. I doubt any of them, except maybe 5 or six, will remember anything. They were the highest ranking, you see." Vemini took a few exploratory steps, feeling his legs which had obviously not seen use for a while. The steps made heavy metallic noises.
