Dakost sees the dwarf coming towards her with a sword. "Took yer BLOODY TIME didn't you?" she spat. "What are ye then, another adventurer? I'll warn ye, there's a loony bastard with a ram-skull 'ere!"

The scorpion elf, noticing the dwarves and kobolds were leaving the room, started going to the other altered elves. He soon discovered that he was a skilled consoler. The elf from outside whose hands were replaced by flint axes wandered in to see if he could find some answers. Slowly, the elves began to find each other and gathered in the ground level dining hall.

HugoLuman walked upstairs, headed for the throne room of the master. When he got to the last floor, he closed his eyes and drifted through the door. Opening them, he scanned the room, soon finding what he was looking for. On a large, flat rock, probably a minimalist table, were several tomes. He looked at them. They were all fairly shocking. One in particular caught his eye, though: a large, bearskin bound book with a picture of KodKod's face on the front. In elvish the title read "The Goddess's Message." In english it read "The secrets of Sadmasochism and Delerium"

In the lowest levels of the cellars, Vemini awoke. So, at last she is dead, he thought, and tested his restraints. He only hoped that whoever killed that betrayer would search the whole tower.

HugoLuman continued looking at the book titles. They all seemed to fit what weird said. "Goodcookies, or The Secrets of life and death" (obviously a present from KodKod), "On mind-altering substances," "The secret of shaping plant life," "A study of lycanthrope; how to induce and control," and "The mechanics of grafting and alteration of the flesh; organic and inorganic matter" all seemed atrocious. One, however, seemed to be worth sparing. "The secrets of Healing and true resurrection."

Taking a deep breath, weird steadied himself, and forced decorum and composure.

"Let me explain this... VERY carefully." He said.

"Magic, is not a "I get everything and a bag of chips" free lunch. It has rules. For everything you take, you give. Everything has consequences. Even magic..... especially magic."

"What do you mean?" Asked templar.

"Ok, take necromancy.  Why do you suppose a necromancer stops aging when they take up the art?" He asked.

"Its simple. You stop aging, because you violate the taboo, and you lose your humanity. When you do finally die, you don't go where you are supposed to go.  You don't go anywhere.  You come back as a ghost, because there is nowhere TO go! And if you get slabbed? Its not the afterlife you go to. You get stuck in limbo. Nowhere to go. That's the price you pay for learning and using necromancy. And that's just for raising bodies to unlife. Nevermind what happens if you futz with a soul!"

He rounded on the deformed elf.

"The kind of magic used on you, causes pain to the caster. The freak that did this to you, was a sadomasochist. Pain and pleasure were one to him. You can smell it in the residue of this place. He gladly paid that price, and more, because he WANTED pain! Why don't I want to try to turn you back, you wonder? For every sensation of bliss you felt under his thrall, you would feel three times as much unendurable pain. That's the only way to satisfy the magic. Moreover, I would be forced to like it. To like causing your pain. I would have to revel in it. Love it, crave it.  That's how magic like this works. That's why it should never be used.  I was offering you the choice to die painlessly, with dignity, and have your name remembered as a person, and not a monster. To undo it, I have to become a monster every bit as horrible as the architect of your suffering, and you have to endure hell itself. "

He sucked in a breath.

"Do you understand why I said what I said now?"

(updated ^)

The scorpion elf rounded on Weird. "Dwarf, I am not asking for my old life back. I find myself able to deal with almost anything. All I ask is for my life to belong to me again. I will not have my fate decided by others any longer!"

Gizogin had managed to replace Oliolli's leg with one of the G-bodies' legs. Then he had told Oliolli what had happened and Oliolli told Gizogin what he knew. Not long after, Oliolli was on his way to the microcline tower, still carrying the ☼adamantine sword☼ an Ugonil, only now he didn't have to use Ugonil as a crutch. He reached the heavy doors of the fortress and heard a slight banging on the other side. Oliolli raised the sword and struck at the door as hard as he could. The sword punched through the door. On the other side, one of the kobolds saw an adamantine blade come through the door, yelled "SHINY!" and tried to grab it, losing all of it's fingers while at it. Several strokes later a small hole had been made. Oliolli stuck his head through and shouted "HEEEERE'S JOHNNY!" He then noticed Corai and the other kobolds. "Oh hey Corai. Long time, no see. How've you been?" he said and smiled widely.

The axe-handed elf looked at the figure with the adamantine blade, then back to his own hands. "Want to trade?" he asked.

"If that is how you feel about it, and you chose life as a monster, that is you choice. I don't consider it humane, though.  I'm sure that not all of those cursed with the taint of this place would accept their apportioned fate as stoically as you are.  For them, let me offer them death, and a proper burial."

Meanwhile, back at the fort...

On the calm beach, 2 yaks suddenly exploded from the waves, flying up wards in an arc. The wagon they pulled landed heavily behind them on the beach. Onward the soggy dwarven trader pushed them, for he could sense the fort was near! He did not care about being the first dwarf to pull a cart through pelagic clay. All he cared about was arriving!

A caravan from the mountainhomes has arrived!

It contains one bin of absolutely waterlogged xx++Cloth++xx!

Vemini flexed his arms. The restraints seemed weak, but not weak enough. He would need help to get free. He just had to see that arch-druid whore's corpse, though. He had to see that she was really dead. The traitorous scum...

The beehive-head elf crawled up to weird, interrupting the scorpion elf. "PLEASE! Make it stop!"

Reudh stands still, cautiously... He doesn't consider himself enough of a leader to take the charge, and plus, he was shit scared of Hugo's poltery nature.

Weird gave the scorpion elf a dour "I told you so" look, then visibly composed himself again.

"What's your name, son." He asked. People have names. They have families. They have loose ends to tie up. Consequences. At least he didn't have to like these ones.

"Where do you live?"
