I'm giessing my activity with this will drop a bit, as my summer vacation ended today. Not much, just thought I'd mention.

Mine ends tomorrow, but that didn't stop me in the last thread (and a good deal of this one) which was during school. Then again, we'll see how the workload is.

[Hmm, I don't start classes until Labor Day.  My younger siblings start the week before.  This week seems a bit early to me to be starting school again.  Speaking of which, I really have to get my work schedule sorted this week...]

[Hey, I have a job!  Part-part-very-part-time, and only during the academic year, but a job nonetheless!  Next summer I'll have a co-op, hopefully.  Give me a break, I'm seventeen.]

"Early?" X replied.  "Not at all.  I, as I'm sure you are aware, do not require sleep.  It's not my fault that you do."

"Well, you could at least try to keep the noise down," Hugo said bitterly.  "So, what are you doing over here, anyway?"

"I was just helping X with an experiment," Lana said quickly.  X, who had opened his mouth to say something, recovered quickly and closed it again.

[Meant that line as a joke. Oh well.]

A shield spell, the quick silence of X. "To find out what, exactly, you are I expect? There's no denying there's something odd about you, Lana, but as you know by now there's something a little odd about all of us. But one thing I've learned about magical creatures is that they can recognize each other. Anyway, this test here seems like a bit much." He looked at X. "Is she dangerous?"

[I know it was a joke.  I have this annoying habit of replying to sarcastic statements and rhetorical questions as though they were posed seriously.  I guess it carried over to X.]

"Dangerous?" X replied, appearing to think it over.  "I suppose that's a fairly accurate description.   It's far from the whole truth, of course."  As he was saying this, he flicked a few switches on the control panel, before flipping the cover off and pressing a large, red button.  The large dome flickered and faded, leaving a perfect line between the badly charred ground inside and the relatively clean grass outside.  X strode over to Lana and said, "There you are.  I'm sorry for the misunderstanding."

"Oh no, think nothing of it," she said, before lashing out with a fist across his jaw.  There was a loud crack, and Gizo X staggered backwards several steps.  He'd seen the blow coming a fraction of a second before it landed, and had allowed himself to move with it; had he not, Lana would have broken her wrist.  Even so, the punch had been stronger than he'd expected, thanks to her unnatural strength, and it had left a sizable dent in the metal framework of his face.  He'd have to get it repaired.

HugoLuman looked at the dent in X's jaw, a little disturbed by the unnatural appearance it gave to his face. "So, Lana, what are you, anyway?"

[Sorry, I'll be unavailable for a couple hours.  Anyway, Lana doesn't want anyone to know she's half demon, at least not yet.]

Weird started belly-laughing. A difficult feat, with 250lbs of vegetables stuffed in the grass basket hanging on his back, but he did it all the same. Tiny little Lana leaving a big dent in X's ego (and face) was hilarious. He couldn't help but point an laugh at X's crumpled in aesthetics.

"You should totally leave it that way!" He rasped between fits of laughter.

X mere scowled at him with a calculating, but otherwise featureless expression.

Lana looked nonplussed though.

The smile didn't leave his face, and he was still inches away from more hysterics when he regained enough composure to stop being stupid. The gravity that tiny little Lana could mangle reinforced metal with her fist did not go unregistered. Then again, while he couldn't do brute strength like that, he could probably turn X into molten metal and ashes in just a few seconds.. everyone in this fortress was deadly in their own way; some of the miners could probably splatter a dwarven skull with good punch. He could almost garantee that the blacksmiths could.

The few moments of introspection helped drive the giggle-fits from him for the most part.

"You know X, there are better ways to learn about people besides tieing them up."

Lana put her left hand on her hip, cocked her stance slighly offcenter, and examined her fingernails casually. "You can say that again." She said almost rhetorically before answering hugo. "I'm a girl." She said smoothly and almost serenely. "What more do you need to know?"

[Ninja by gizo. Correction to suit request.]

["Girl" is important information. We have a shortage, don't you know!]

Eric cursed quietly at the empty space. After clambering through the upper part of the rubble on their bellies, taking out only a few stones, the miners had discovered that the right half of the dining room floor had collapsed on the food stockpiles below, and of the left half, the portion nearest the center was leaning down against the floor at a steep angle. Boulders of poorly-consolidated material had fallen out of the ceiling above, one hitting almost dead center of the room, bringing down the area in the middle, and several more on the right side. Booze and rotten meat still lay in a dusty pool an inch or so deep across the floor, visible between the rubble and bits of wooden barrels. Apparently booze doesn't soak into this stone very well...

The Left half was hidden from view, as was the state of the dining room floor at the far end of the room, from down in the stockpile.

"What should we do? Tear down tha' crooked bit?"

"I don't think that's quite safe. It might shift and fall. Let's try to make entrance where it meets the wall over here; dig into the wall, and try not to move anything that'd shift the block."

[Meat might not be rotten, it's only been 2 days. Depends on how cold it is really, or if it was salted.]

A cagey answer, but he'd leave her alone about it for now. "And I'm... well, I don't really know any what I am anymore. Looks like we're starting to get a fair number of once-humans, look-humans, and near-humans. As long as none of us go around eating people, It's no problem to me." With that, he plodded off back to the tunnels, looking for Eric. He needed something to do other than think paranoid thoughts about an omniscient malefactor.

Weird chuckled to himself over the whole 'girl power!l thing. He had better things to do besides stand around and laugh, but it had been a welcome diversion. It sure beat having armies of mechanoids, goblins, and whoknowswhatelse's invading and causing a ruckus.

With a deep breath, a sigh, and a side to side shake of the head (shaking 'no'), he turned around, and headed back for the foraging area; he needed to show his swag to Reudh, and see if he could show the brewers that his collections would serve them very well indeed.

He chuckled to himself again, the smile from seeing X get plastered still clinging to his bearded face, then raised his right hand in a sign of departure. "I gotta get back to work now.." he smirked. "I'm sure you kids can figure it out on your own..."

He could practically feel Lana's incredulous dagger-eye stare hitting him in the back, but he just laughed louder and waved the arm. "Bye now!"

Reudh was pretty much in the same place he was before; overseeing the collection attempts of the various dwarven peasants he had under his employ. 2 stacks of assorted collections had slowly taken shape in the interviening time. He recognized a few items in both stacks, and deduced that the one containing purple poke and black belladonna berries was the "no, that's not edible" pile.  He'd have to go through the 'safe' pile later. It never hurt to pick up new tricks.

"Hey Reudh!" He said, still amused. "I hit the jackpot."

[My guess is that he's sculking about somewhere, triple-angry that 1) he REALLY can't get in his coffin, 2) there's no booze, and 3) even if there were, he can't get drunk anyway. Probably cursing little woodland critters and watching them trip and run into trees for amusement.]

[I had an idea on how he *COULD* potentially get drunk though. He just needs to be hypnotized, and told that he *will* get drunk after drinking alcohol. The power of psychosomatic responses and all that. Might have to try it on him later.]

[As for the shortage of girls, I don't think so. The question is if you can tell a girl dwarf from a boy dwarf. Muscles, possible facial hair, lack of breasts (if you go by the raws anyway..) strong chance of being stark raving bald, and dressing like men. Likewise, male dwarves may wear dresses, may grow luxurious long hair, and be decidedly plump in all the right places. The bay12er inability to determine gender could be a source of amusement.]
