Identical figures, neither male nor female marched through the streets and bridges, moving with the exact same movements. Floating chunks of rock, covered in impossibly tall metal towers, were linked to each other by great bridges and walkways, or some by a great building with top foundations on one and bottom foundations on another. The size of the city could not be told; like how in space it was impossible to go in a straight line without hitting a star, Happyface's gaze met with a metal building or island wherever he looked. There were no gaps in which sky or void could be seen.

Permeating it all was an orchestral music dark and grand. The sound reverberated, amplified by each of the buildings, each of the mindless clockwork people, so that it's source could not be found. In the great square at the heart of it all stood Clockwork Hugo, conducting his vast orchestra. He had never managed to give his false-people satisfactory voices, so the music was without a choir for full effect. The dissonant vibrations of HappyFace's being, tiny, echoed through his realm, and he knew he was no longer alone. A fly had entered the web.

Clockwork loosed his voice, the only voice of all the metal there, in a laugh that echoed through all the streets. The hunt was on.

[That scanner will take some hacking. When the moment is right, the door will open. Very important that something else happens first, so how about we all go see that while Gizogin X stays behind to open the door?]

Mrhappyface was about to give up. The claws were leaving deep weeping wounds in his bodies, and despite his increased healing factor, would do little if cut deep enough. But suddenly, the clockwork Corai leaped off him. It seemed to be sniffing the air.
Mrhappyface, still terrified started to scramble backwards. Without another look back, it jumped off the platform to the next metal island. Mrhappyface collapsed down, gasping with relief. But that only lasted for so long.
Glimmering lights seemed to be approaching in the air, accompanied by a distinct buzzing sound. They were the hunter-killers of the clockwork world, the antibodies for foreign contagions. And HE was the infection.

[Not a problem.  I'm sure the others aren't interested in watching X hacking a scanner.  I know that Lana's pretty impatient.]

With X's assurances that he'd be fine on his own, the others went down the stairs, prompting the lights at the bottom to turn on. The stairs ended in another wide corridor, going to the left, parallel to the hallway above. At the end of the long corridor was a door marked "Foundry," which was wide and marked "Restricted," and another right left. On the left side of the passage, near the turn, was a door covered in chips and gashes in the metal, though none poking all the way through. What looked like it might be "Workshop" was the only discernible thing about its label.

[Slooooooooooow...

Did everyone disappear last night for some reason?  I can't do anything without knowing where the story's going.]

[Oh, I actually decide to *play* dwarf fortress, instead of just write story posts, and people get crabby! LOL!  Really, my fort hadn't had any playtime in over a month. It was still "pre-minecart" for goodness sake!]

[Lol! It's okay. We all needed a break. My house needed a good cleaning XD

Also, been distracted by the News. I'm of the sort to research news myself after I hear it, in order to get a more informed view. Some scary-ass shit happened last night]

[Really? Do tell. I usually avoid the news since it contains brain damaging levels of spin, half-truths, and innane blather. What was the crazy that went down?]

[I'm going to make a guess and say that it has to do with the twelve people who were shot to death in Colorado last night.  It was at a midnight showing of "The Dark Knight Rises".  That's some pretty scary stuff.

Speaking of which, I really want to see that movie.  My brother went to a midnight showing (we're nowhere near Colorado, thankfully), and he says it's awesome.]

[It pays to stay on top of current events. WikiNews and NPR are good for announcing things, though to avoid spin, always check at least 3 different stories about it (from 3 different sources, naturally) and do some research on your own.

I was worried since there is a friend of the family who lives in Colorado, frequents the very theater, and loves midnight showings. Thankfully, he didn't go to that one.]

[Sorry for double post, again.]

Oliolli walked over to the "workshop" door, and kicked it lightly. It swung open slowly. There were long scratches on the concrete floor, leading ending in a dilapidated metal cabinet of drawers, to the right of the door.

It was evidently a personal workshop of some sort. The room was relatively small, compared to the huge systems rooms, about the size of two garages. There were various machines and stations, all obviously abandoned for a long time, of unknown function. Wierd  recognized a few of them, but doubted that they still functioned; none of them looked like they were being maintained. The largest one, hooked up to some kind of computer console, Wierd recognized as a Numerical Control Carving machine. There were various perfectly square, identically portioned slabs of smooth white stone lying haphazardly near it, some of which were blank and some of which were carved.

Wierd walked around to the side of the machine, while the others were still looking about the room. Sitting underneath the detatched, broken tool-arms, was a slab still on the workspace. Gingerly, he pulled it out. It was engraved with minute text, upside down from his point of view, but the heading was large enough to read without turning the slab around. Wierd concentrated. The flipped heading read "The Last Testament of SRM."

"Hey, you might want to come see this," he said.

[Sorry, just a bit of nit-picking; X is still working on the lock, and therefore wouldn't be in a position to recognize any of the machines.]

Gizogin got up and walked out of the tower.  He stood just outside, observing the scenery.  He didn't really have an appreciation for nature, being much more mechanically inclined, but he found that sometimes he just needed to get some fresh air and listen to the ambient noise.  A brown rabbit hopped out of a bush nearby, startling him.  It looked at him curiously, before bounding away on its powerful rear legs.  Gizogin walked around to the other side of the tower, out of the sun, and sat in the shade.
