[Haven't been posting because I've been playing EVE Online. Not a problem as there's not much for my character to do besides work behind the scenes while everyone else goes and plays in ancient ruins. Seems to happen a lot.]

[Oh. Right then. Sorry. If you ever find yourself 150 feet underground clearing rubble and the occasional body, be sure to stop by for a chat!

I'll be going to sleep now, though.]

Corai, your avatar is slowly transforming into an evil rabbit. How long will it be until kobolds are suddenly furries?

Also it keeps getting more and more advanced weapons. From a knife (being a kobold, probably just a sharp rock) to a microsidian spear to an uzi. What's next, the controller to an orbital kill-sat?

in deference, he's had the uzi for about 50 pages now. I think he's had it longer, but he's used it sparingly. (cant get ammo.)

I just find the idea of a floppy-eared reptile analog to be... not sensible. Birds and such have ears, but they are little tiny holes with a flap of fuzzy skin covering them to keep stuff out.

(somebody pulling back the flap to expose the ear canal of a pine warbler)
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

It's fairly analogous to what most reptiles have-- which is either a naked ear canal, such as in bearded dragons, or one with a scaled flap in place of a fuzzy-feathered one, such as found in turtles.

but... that"s just me being a pedant. *shrug*

They could be hideous little monsters with a mixture of fur and scales as body coverings. Kinda like pangolins. Except pangolins aren't hideous. They're awesome.

And not to forget that the raws have no indication of kobolds having either fur or scales. They would seem to indicate brown-skinned, warm-blooded mammalian humanoids that lay eggs. And have huge ears. I'd always imagined monotreme house-elfs with glowing yellow eyes.

-I been trying to slowly turn that uzi into a myth. After the insanity of the first fort I been trying to get more realistic this time around, meaning the uzi is more of just a piece of metal he carries to scare people. I doubt I would even have ammo if it was still functional.

Plus Splint made it, it is nice. Isn't it?-

[Wow, people noticed my work! Also I went with the more.... apealing variation that seems to have embeded itself in a few players minds as to what a kobold looks like.

Besides, I see Corai as a modbold now. What they are is what he is.]

"This sure is weird." said Mrhappyface as he jumped over an axle. Just an endless expanse of brown clockwork extended in front, behind, over, and under. There seemed to be some sort of dim light source illuminating the mechanisms and smoke, but from what he saw, nothing seemed to be powering them.
Then he saw it. Some sort of clambering creature ahead of him. 4 legs, pointed "ears" and glowing yellow eyes were what he could see. It stopped as it turned what look like its head toward him, and made an ominous clicking noise. Mrhappyface started backing away on the metal plate.
It pounced, and he was able to see it in its full horror. A tattered velvet suit clung to its artificial bronze automaton body, and wicked claws sprouted from its hands and feet.
"C-Corai!" he gibbered as the monster flew towards him.
Mrhappyface screamed as it bore him down and tore his flesh. Mrhappyface began savagely beating it with his fists, trying to dislodge it.

Gizogin was bored.  The others hadn't been gone for very long, but he hadn't had much to do.  He'd already explored the tower again, but there was nothing else to find.  He couldn't take the tank for a spin, in case X called him for help.  The equipment he'd brought had been meant for opening the door, which had gone much more easily than expected.  As such, there wasn't much he could do with it now.  Still, he thought, boring was better than dangerous.  He sat down against the tower wall, watching the entryway.

[Sorry, I was on a (not very fruitful) outing. Where to next, people in the underground? Another systems room, or towards the living quarters and/or downstairs?]

[Living quarters!  We must know more about the people who lived here.]

[Well, the quarters might tell something, but not what you think.]

As interesting as the other systems seemed, the passage down to the area marked "Living Quarters" was far more interesting. The group headed over there to join Oliolli, who stood looking down the top of a staircase. The living quarters, unfortunately, were blocked off by a rather heavy vertical door with "Secure Area - Authorization Required" on it. On the wall next to it was some kind of console with a small hatch next to the screen. Gizogin X walked over and flipped open the hatch, revealing what looked like the back of a pair of binoculars. A red light in the shape of "NR" was flashing under the screen, which when uncovered was revealed to be broken. Thankfully, the screen seemed burned with it's last image, which was a note reading:

"As per the new upgrade to dorm security, all rooms require retinal scan of occupant to open. In case of security lockdown, the entire wing will require scan of one of us. If your room door isn't letting you in, come see me.

Gizo X looked at the scanner.  It was very high-tech, and likely very tough to crack.  He could do it, that he didn't doubt, but it might take him a while.  Unfortunately, the door itself was tough as well, so brute force was largely out of the question.  He allowed himself a small smile; he couldn't resist a challenge.
