[50 stories? That's gonna require steel girders. The whole fort would fit inside such a structure, too. I suggest turning it into a flak tower. 200 days minimum for completing such a project, though.]

Eric heard a loud bang. Almost like a thunderclap, but not quite. He and the 15 or so elves that were awake (most of them having been in bed since before he got there) ran outside to look. They saw nothing for a few minutes, but as they stayed to watch carefully, some figures came out of the woods. It was Askak and his party, looking a bit worn and weary.

[Recap!]

[Eric: Unconscious]
[Wierd: Unconscious, Nauseous]
[X: Offline]
[Zanzetkuken: KIA]
[Mr Happyface: MIA/AWOL]
[Surinae(sp?): AWOL]
[Gizogin: Exhausted]
[G-Bodies: Low Power; G-7: Deactivated]
[Atak: Unknown status]
[Hugo: Exhausted, pain]
[Udib: Wound, Difficulty breathing, Faint]
[Dwarves: Confusion, Cold, Thirsty, Miserable]
[Corai: "Eeeek! Help me!", Hidden]
[Nir: Attend Meeting]

[Anything I missed?]

Secondary characters:

[Roead:Unhappy, as usual]
[Vemini:Patrol]
[SPHM: MIA]
[Ironblood: Feed wounded]
[Jerry: Wound, drowsy. Chop wood.]
[Askak: Return home]

Never mind cracked limbs, that dwarf has suffered fairly serious cranial trauma. Wierd may have fixed any life-threatening damage, though.

[Man, I picked the perfect time to unleash this.  X and wierd are both out for the time being.  Gizogin and the G-Bodies are busy treating those guys from the crash.  The dwarves are disoriented and nauseous.  Basically, defenses are as low as they can be.]

Oliolli is in the area. I suppose that from the point of view of all the other forumites he's MIA. I also like how nobody seems to remember his existance.

Also, only a handful of people would know who you are well enought to know or care you were missing.  Unlike the other forumites, you have been present at the fort for a very short time. :)

In a disorganized mess like we have, taking inventory of the missing, dead, and injured will likely take severa days as funeral services cause delays in exploration and repair of the damaged structure. This will cause protracted and repeated delays to reconstruction and repair operations, as such activities recover crushed bodies, and then require additional funeral services.

Until we have cleared out the rubble, or until you show up, we have to ascribe your status as simply "missing", since it is possible you were mooshed in the disturbance or were walled into panic room.

We can't hold a proactive memorial service due to the possibility of survivors.

(I have worked at serious disaster sites before, and know how things like this inevitably pan out.)

Gizogin stood up.  He'd just finished treating the dwarf's wounds, at least as much as he could with what he had available, and was about to move on to the human.  He turned around, and there was a tall, cloaked figure standing there.  Gizogin let out a cry and jumped back.  "Who are you?  Where did you come from?" he asked, startled.

"You don't remember me?" came the reply from within the dark hood.  "Really Warren, I'm disappointed in you."

Warren? thought Gizogin.  But no-one's called me that in years, not since... "Lana?" he sputtered.  "But, how did you...  What!?"

The figure laughed.  "Oh, I'd forgotten how funny you are when you're confused.  I'll explain everything later, don't you worry."  A gloved hand reached up out of the cloak and pulled back the hood.  Underneath was a woman with long, red hair and blue-grey eyes.  "I'm here because I need your help."

"Wait a minute," Gizogin replied, suspicious.  "Why should I help you?  Why should I even trust you?  You disappeared more than four years ago without a trace, and suddenly you're here, now?  How do I know you're even Lana?"

"I told you I'd explain later," the woman said.  Gizogin looked unimpressed.  "Fine, you want me to prove you can trust me?  That I am who I say I am?"

"Yes, that's the general idea."

The woman sighed.  From somewhere in the folds of her cloak, she produced a small, badly worn, yellow toy mouse.  She tossed it to Gizogin, who snatched it out of the air.  "What's-" he began, before he realized just what he was looking at.  "You had it?  You had it the whole time?  I thought I'd lost it!"  The woman gave a little smile, before being tackled into a hug by Gizogin.  "It really is you!" he said.  "I missed you, sis."

"I missed you too, big brother."

With what I had in mind for revelations soon to be made, another person from the homeworld makes things very very interesting. And just a little bit disturbing.  You'll all find out soon enough.

Sounds like we've got a somewhat wet-behind-the-ears Draconic Patton, a stoic Stallone, and a Dwarven typical awkward protege :D

Sister huh... too bad mine wouldn't come for a visit. She doesn't play DF. She might get into it, but I dunno.

Shame really, she was my work partner growing up. Our skills compliment each other almost perfectly, and we work together almost seamlessy. You would never suspect that in our early years we actively tried to kill each other. (Literally.) :D

As for the rapsheets for our new friends, it sounds like my char will get along fairly well with the dragon general, will rub the wrong way with the human soldier, and might become a point of fascination by the dwarven engineer. (He likes silver and black, weird has silvery hair and is a necromancer. Dwarf is also akward in social situations, so some oddball questions are sure to happen.)

[Bring on the angst about missing people from home! I figure that's what will happen when we are introduced to Gizogin's sister. I for one would probably sorely miss my little brother and best friends at times. Had a moment about it when Wierd was singing in the kitchen, since my bro is always practicing songs (mostly swing)]

Weird might pine for his sister a little, but harsh rationality is a core staple of his being. He doesn't have, make, nor need many friends. Believes in quality over quantity. Is very picky about who he chooses to become friends with. He would do random acts of kindness for strangers, but would move mountains for friends. Can spend months at a time with little or no social interaction, and thus seems enigmatic and distant to most people. He would become slightly notalgic seeing gizogin with his sister, would be curious about her story in terms of her arrival, but would overall be happy she makes gizogin feel better.

He enojoys making other people happy, but detests being used or taken for granted. He's a bit like a fickle fairytale enchanter in that respect. He does things because he enjoys doing them, and being told that something is his job or duty, when he never agreed to any such thing, makes his hostile. For voluntary contractual agreements, its different, but voluntary work around the fortress is either to satisfy a glaring need, or for pure pleasure. Eg, if told its his duty from now on to run the big amagama kiln, he would tell the person flat out they were mistaken, and even contemplate demolishing the kiln. This aspect makes some people think he is tempermental, touchy, and unreliable. The truth is that he dislikes people putting him in defined boxes, and daring to pesume they have the right or authority to tell him his business. This character trait is directly associated with his deeply ingrained dislike for politicians and nobles. He is a person, not a fancy workomatic gizmo, and certainly noone's servant.

He is not an anarchist, despite the fairly obvious signs. He believes strongly in self governance, sure, but also agrees that there needs to be some form of unified social rulebase to maintain a safe, healthy, and happy community. He differs in that he feels this structure should be minimalist, and that authority figures are like diapers; they are full of shit, and should be changed often. He feels noone is above the socially accepted rules, and as such, nobles creating mandates and feeling unrealistic senses of entitlement set him off. If faced with such a noble, he would run for office just to frustrate their senses of entitlement, and rub their nose in it by living in the crappiest quarters in the fortress for the term of his appointment. The only mandates he would make would be for vital infrastructure, and he would not fixate on punishment for work order violations. He feels it would be hypocritical of him to do so, given his own views on the matter.

This means that in any sufficiently promoted social structure, he will become the subject of government animosity. He would think nothing of insulting the king straight to his face, if the king was being insulting himself. Would even punch the king, if he was threatened in kind, and would take it as far as the king was willing to push the issue. (Until either one of them was dead, or until the king came to his senses, whichever comes first.) He is well aware of these personal faults, and ardently avoids political involvement as much as possible as a consequence.

HATES authority figures, especially those that are blatantly officious, and act like their shit doesn't stink.

That makes "outlaw wizard" a very real potential story feature, but not one I really want to explore.

Because outlaw wizards (representing 95% of all magic users!) inevitably end up travelling the countryside looking for people to abduct and perform experiments on or murder horribly, or so TES games would imply.

It will be interesting.

I forgot to note in that post that the general would not have been wearing the purple robes of a noble.  It would instead have been the brown robes of the common citizen of the realm.  In that society, all military nobility positions are only around in times of war, and after it is over, the position is removed.

[Bring on the angst about missing people from home! I figure that's what will happen when we are introduced to Gizogin's sister. Even if he was still alive, my character would not worry about his family, due to fifteen years in the multiverse.  Anything like that would've passed long ago.

If the kung-fu master wants to test wierd's mettle in pain tolerance, he might be surprised. Weird can endure a tremendous amount, having been copnditioned in ways tbhat these days are considered abusive. :D

When I was 8, I had an ingrown toenail on my right foot. I had to have the nail surgically removed, and the area was too inflamed and infected for local anesthesia.

so, It was removed without anesthesia.

I talked idly with the doctor, and freaked him out horribly, as he cut and pulled the toenail out. Aparently my lack of screaming, begging for painkillers, and jerking during the proceedure unnerved him. He commented that he had prior patients that had fainted under those conditions. If weird is aware that pain is coming, it does not bother him. Surprise pain is a surprise, but pain he expects is no sweat. Pain is totally a thing of the mind, and can be overrulled.

But you are right.. weird would take almost sadistic (masochistic?) glee in undermining and belittling the kung-fu master.

[Man, I have no pain tolerance whatsoever.  It's a bit odd, actually.  I've been learning and practicing martial arts for more than ten years now, and I like to think that I'm quite good at it, but I just don't respond well to pain or the threat thereof.

Gizogin, as I've said before, isn't me.  He doesn't have my martial arts experience, but it's possible he has a tougher constitution.]
