Weird might pine for his sister a little, but harsh rationality is a core staple of his being. He doesn't have, make, nor need many friends. Believes in quality over quantity. Is very picky about who he chooses to become friends with. He would do random acts of kindness for strangers, but would move mountains for friends. Can spend months at a time with little or no social interaction, and thus seems enigmatic and distant to most people. He would become slightly notalgic seeing gizogin with his sister, would be curious about her story in terms of her arrival, but would overall be happy she makes gizogin feel better.
He enojoys making other people happy, but detests being used or taken for granted. He's a bit like a fickle fairytale enchanter in that respect. He does things because he enjoys doing them, and being told that something is his job or duty, when he never agreed to any such thing, makes his hostile. For voluntary contractual agreements, its different, but voluntary work around the fortress is either to satisfy a glaring need, or for pure pleasure. Eg, if told its his duty from now on to run the big amagama kiln, he would tell the person flat out they were mistaken, and even contemplate demolishing the kiln. This aspect makes some people think he is tempermental, touchy, and unreliable. The truth is that he dislikes people putting him in defined boxes, and daring to pesume they have the right or authority to tell him his business. This character trait is directly associated with his deeply ingrained dislike for politicians and nobles. He is a person, not a fancy workomatic gizmo, and certainly noone's servant.
He is not an anarchist, despite the fairly obvious signs. He believes strongly in self governance, sure, but also agrees that there needs to be some form of unified social rulebase to maintain a safe, healthy, and happy community. He differs in that he feels this structure should be minimalist, and that authority figures are like diapers; they are full of shit, and should be changed often. He feels noone is above the socially accepted rules, and as such, nobles creating mandates and feeling unrealistic senses of entitlement set him off. If faced with such a noble, he would run for office just to frustrate their senses of entitlement, and rub their nose in it by living in the crappiest quarters in the fortress for the term of his appointment. The only mandates he would make would be for vital infrastructure, and he would not fixate on punishment for work order violations. He feels it would be hypocritical of him to do so, given his own views on the matter.
This means that in any sufficiently promoted social structure, he will become the subject of government animosity. He would think nothing of insulting the king straight to his face, if the king was being insulting himself. Would even punch the king, if he was threatened in kind, and would take it as far as the king was willing to push the issue. (Until either one of them was dead, or until the king came to his senses, whichever comes first.) He is well aware of these personal faults, and ardently avoids political involvement as much as possible as a consequence.
HATES authority figures, especially those that are blatantly officious, and act like their shit doesn't stink.
That makes "outlaw wizard" a very real potential story feature, but not one I really want to explore.
