[Well yes, but you still need quite a bit of lead.  That's assuming anyone even thinks to check for a radiation leak in the first place.  Even then, it'd be quite a while before the shielding was up, long enough for the radiation to do serious damage.  I'd stick with beta emissions.]

[A mixed bag of Alpha, Beta, and Neutron particle emissions would be suitably nasty as to need a hazard suit (made for radiation), while not being so nasty as to cause "Surprise! You've got radiation sickness!" for people living peacefully below ground. All three of those emissions types would be stopped by a few feet of soil, even at "Wow! It glows!" levels of emission. We could obsidian cast the whole thing, and just have an obsidian statue that is mysteriously "always warm", but would otherwise be fairly safe.]

[We'd probably just die before we could do anything. We don't necessarily have access to lead, or shelter, at the moment.

However, given that our magma source is highly felsic, it is a given that we have a emtric ass-ton of granite, which would mean we'd probably have at least some galena and possibly gold supplies to work with. We also have magnetite and... Well, I dunno. Calcite, and volcanic ash. That implies we've got plenty of sedimentary layers sitting right on top of a little metamorphic rock and a massive magma pluton.

You know what? Maybe I should do a little geologic survey of our site. Someday.

Nah...

Until some jackass religious nut/super villain thinks it's some sort of ancient divine power source and blows the obsidian cast off. It'd end up like the story of the Ark of the Covenant...]

[Sorry Zanzetkuken, had to make a small adjustment to the items the survivors have. Change that box of parts to a socket wrench, pipe wrench, and a powerdrill. Not as high tech, but would be very useful even without the engineer present.]
HugoLuman saw the huge ship appear in the sky overhead, swooping down for a landing several hundred meters away. "I recognize that ship," he said to Wierd. "It's the one Zanz boarded to go fight the war that is evidently involving us now, despite promises. If he's returned, that could mean... wait, is that fire coming out of the panel there?"

"What's going on in here!?" demanded the Chief Core Engineer.

"Um, sir, it looks like we've got an unstoppable core failure about to happen."

"Well, whatever happened to the failsafes? The emergency dischargers, the dampening crystals!?"

"They've all... failed sir. She's going to blow."

"Well then, we've got to abandon ship! The ultimate failsafe should send us all back to our homes. Why isn't it activating?"

"These readings... impossible! According to this, the other planes don't exist! Our signals can't get out of this world! We're stuck!"

"By all the gods... Okay, we'll run! How long do we have?" He reached up to the microphone and shouted over the PR. "EVACUATE NOW! RUN FOR IT!"

"According to this, we've got about-"

Small explosions wracked the ship. Chunks of plating flew off, sticking into the ground. The Slashdriver stood still for a moment, smoking, but it was only for a few seconds. The air around the ship seemed to blur and contort. Lines of energy, constantly violently changing color whipped across the hull like the aurora borealis, followed by flashed of lightning arcing out and splitting trees. All sound seemed to vanish for a moment before, finally, the ship imploded in a flash of brilliant blue fire. There was nothing left but a huge, black scorch line on the ground and various large metal plates scattered all over a 30 meter radius.

HugoLuman, Gizogin, Wierd, and Askak ran towards the wreckage, but stopped about halfway there. On the ground lay 3 figures. One of them HugoLuman recognized as the general who Zanzetkuken had been speaking to. The other two were a human and a dwarf, both unconscious. The human held some kind of rifle in his hands, scorched on one side, but it looked like it might still function. The dwarf looked in pretty bad shape; blood poured from a large wound in the back of his head. All were wearing the army-uniform armor, but the armor was looking sorry. Evidently it had been hastily put on, and by the looks of it absorbed a lot of damage that would have killed the wearers, though in the process it had been rendered almost entirely broken. Many of the plates were cracked or melted at the edges and about a third were missing.

Gizogin X ran over to the bleeding dwarf. After looking over him for a bit, he gave his conclusion. "If we give him medical attention immediately, he will probably live. I doubt that even if we treat him, though, he'll be able to regain consciousness any time soon. This damage is fairly serious. He will be in a coma, and if he wakes at all, it will take months at least."

[X is completely out of it for ten hours.  Gizogin is an emotional wreck at the moment, though I suppose an emergency might snap him out of it for a while.]

[Sorry, didn't see that post about Gizogin X. I thought that he was up and Gizogin was sitting on the floor rocking about and crying. Oh well, edited.]

Eric took a seat next to the small group of elves around the plant. Several of them appeared to be outwardly normal elves on (though on the inside Eric knew they were still anything but), and the rest of them had various plant grafts. The one with the crossbow stood in front of Eric. "So, what news from our neighbors? Our leader set out with a large party to see what the commotion at your area was, and provide aid if necessary. Is something wrong?"

"Uhh... Yeah. Nearly the entire population of our fortress went bonkers, and tried killing the rest of us. Same thign happened with a couple of the men you sent, but... I think your leader - what was is name again anyway?- oh, yeah the rest of your party got away fine, but I stuck around until just about everybody else was dead. They didn't make it back here yet?" Eric was still jittery from his run, or possibly hypothermia. In fact, he was feeling rather ill...

"No, not yet. This is very worrying news." He looked at Eric, who seemed very pale. "You do not look well. We've got some healing paste on the dinner table somewhere. You should take some. Anyway, you say there is a large, violently insane group only a mile from here?"

[Sorry, but I'm going to lose consciousness shortly (for the purpose of obtaining a superior state of consciousness at a later date.), so the elves will have to put up with me standing there with a blank expression for several awkward hours. :P]

"Well, yeah, there were. Tough ones, too. I... Don't really know what's going on over there now, though. Goddess of death flying around screaming, then there was this weird... uh, magical effect, I guess, that caused all sorts of problems with... uh, the wildlife. More specifically the undead wildlife. I was chased by rabid undead rodents, and something came down through the clouds. Regardless, it may not be wise to go back out there for the duration of the storm. It's raining eels, if you didn't notice. I think I may be allergic or something."

Eric was offered some of the healing paste.

"Thanks. Wait, should this be ingested for internal injury or illness, or just applied to the skin, or what?"

He really felt like he was losing his mind at this point...

Oliolli looked around. He was just outside the walls of the fort, too close to be spotted from the walls, and apparently on the opposite side from the entrance. Nothing better to do, he started on his way around the fort.

[Oliolli; You're already on the surface. The halo of light took you up, leaving you standing in the rain.]

Ah, alright. At least now I don't have to figure out a way to get out :P

Well, change in history.

"Geez, it sure is boring around here in hell/purgatory/heaven. I wonder what everyone else is doing?"  said Happy Face to no one in particular from atop the bell tower. It was still the same as it was, a endless field of lava rocks surrounding his white clay church.
Well, at least those horrible aches and itching along with those black veins disappeared when he came here. When was that anyways? Days, months, years, an eternity? There weren't any celestial bodies from what he could see and there weren't any clocks to be found.

Fine by me, since he will be out for a decent amount of time.

I was hoping that what remained would be mostly intact.  Oh well.

I doubt that even if we treat him, though, he'll be able to regain consciousness any time soon. This damage is fairly serious. He will be in a coma, and if he wakes at all, it will take months at least."

How about the rest?  I would think that this would be the situation:
Quote
The human should be in fairly good condition, due to him already having his armor on, instead of having to put it on in a hurry, and being near the exit to act as the guard, causing the outer-plating of the ship to shield him from the majority of the blast.  The general would be in a coma for about two weeks, due to being outside.  He wouldn't have been wearing his armor at the time, instead having opted for clothing due to this having meant to be diplomatic.  The clothing would've survived, and the armor would be somewhere nearby, nearly shattered.  All would have some radiation poisoning for the time being.

When they are released, I would like control the human and the dwarf.  You can keep control of the frost dragon general.  I'll get their descriptions via the RNG.
