Weird grinned.  You could always count on gizogin to come up with something horrid in mechanical form.

"Awesome doc! What do I owe you?"

Gizogin frowned.  The thought of payment hadn't even crossed his mind.  He'd been working for so long as the doctor, which granted him free room and board, as well as access to pretty much any supplies he needed for his work, that he just sort of forgot that most people expected to pay for things.  Of course, he'd never understood economics very well anyway.  "Tell you what," he said at last.  "I'll let you know when I have something I need you to do.  A favor for a favor, you know."

[I guess, if this is DF 1.0, the economy is back and working as it should.  If there's socialized healthcare, which would make sense, then Gizogin would have his wages paid by the government.  Because he can't be bothered to keep track of his own finances, he just gets paid in food, his own workshop, and a stipend of raw materials, with a small amount of spending money.  At least, that's how I picture it working; like I said, I don't really get economics.]

[In most outposts, the dwarves usually operate under martial law, or more likely an "honor and duty" system. Everyone is supposed to do what they're told, and is payed in food and shelter. Only when a colony survives long enough to become the playground of a spoiled noble does the economy kick in, when they're not fighting for survival against nature. Personally, I'd like to keep it as-is. We don't want to be troubled by such annoying things as money.]

HugoLuman woke again to see Wierd standing in the door of Gizogin's office. "That you Wierd?"

[Timeskip will be soon enough, don't worry. There was just one thing that needs to happen.

Also, about plot-points, none will be forgotten. I've actually read through both threads again and noted several down]

Allright. If you ever need any incindiary devices, bombs, toxic gas grenades, or even just deadly or psychoactive candy or something like that, just let me know... Oh yeah! I keep forgetting! I made a batch of aspirin tablets 2 days ago, since we haven't had the chance to stock many supplies. I've been meaning to drop them off down here, but I haven't made any bottles for them yet. They're just sitting on the parchment paper, collecting dust on my shelf. If you have any old bottles, I could take one with me, and fill it up. "

Gizogin rubbed his chin disturbingly like X did while thinking. "Yeah, its be nice to have something to give all the folks that come in with smashed fingers and muscle aches..." he mused. "I think... hold on a moment."

And with that gizogin retreated back into his office for a few minutes, only to return with a large green glass jar and a giant cork stopper.

"Will this do?" He asked.

"Perfectly. I'll try not to forget. Here....." weird shifted the steel box to be under one arm, freeing his left. "I'll take that."

"Are you sure I shouldn't send Mk VII to help you?" Asked gizogin politely. "That's a lot to carry at once."

"I'll manage.." weird said, taking the large stoppered specimen bottle from gizogin, and curling it under his free arm. "I'l bring it back with the aspirin later, alright?"

"Take your time." Said the doctor, opening the infirmary door for him.

"Thanks doc. I appreciate it."

"Sure thing.. now, if you'll excuse me, I have more work to do. Enjoy your new strongbox!"

"I will, good day doctor." Weird nodded at gizogin, as he stepped out into the hallway. Today have been hectic, but things were starting to look up. He wasn't gonna waste time. Taking a deep breath, he powerwalked to his quarters as fast as he could walk.

---
[Ninja edit! Ooh! Spooky!]

Weird sat the heavy box down on his bed, breathed a moment or two, then carried the specimen jar to his workbench, and started filling it. The batch of aspirin only filled it about 2/3 full; it was a very large specimen jar, like you would put a medical oddity in... like a severed head.. or a fetus. Weird wondered just what it was that gizogin would kee in bottles this size, but decided against it. The bottle was clean, and available, and now it held aspirin tablets. Lots of them.

Putting a wad of washed and combed pigtail fiber fluff he had prepaired for nitration into nitrocellulose, but never got the chance to in the mouth of the jar, he stuffed the cork down into place, sealing gizogin's care package up nicely. It really did look like something a doctor would have on a shelf, even just for decoration.

He returned his attention to the lockbox sitting on the bed. He smiled, then set about loading it with the deadly books he had been carrying in his suit for fear they would be discovered. These things were the sort of thing that drove people crazy, and he wanted rid of them before eric could come calling.

His tensions eased a little, when the lid of the box came down, and made the soft tell-tale click of the latch engaging, and securing the contents. The only documents left in the bag now were X's plans and notes on elemental magics and his G-Core.

With a renewed sense of viggor, he set off to find where it was that Roead sculked about when he wasn't insulting people and causing trouble.

[You probably don't want to know what was in that bottle.  Don't worry; I cleaned it thoroughly.]

Gizogin turned to Hugo, who was now awake.  "Ah, Hugo.  I had the Mk. VI fetch you a couple barrels of meat, since you said you were hungry.  They're just over there, if you want them.  And I'm not X, so I don't know what you wanted me to tell him, sorry."

[Woops with last post. Edited now]

Hugo looked at the meat. "Oh.. ok, I guess I am kind of hungry." He found this new-found taste for raw meat increasingly disturbing, but he had to eat. This body was so strange. Heightened senses sounded cool at first, but then all the little noises you could hear sounded annoying and sometimes creepy. Having a more sensitive nose was not so good when you had to sleep in a hospital. Not to mention this disturbing sense of taste and the interior workings best left unmentioned. The only new sensation he welcomed was the sight. Even then, there were those damn see-through lids. And to make matters worse, he'd gone and broken his body as well. He sighed. Oh well. As long as he wasn't dead.

[Ninja edit above.]

It was much easier to carry just the box, even if it did have 3 unabridged dictionary sized books inside it. He had loaded it with some random paper, odds, and ends he wouldn't need just to make the contents appear uninteresting should somebody actually succeed in opening it without being horribly killed.

He stopped by the dining hall. Its where *everyone* seemed to turn up and gossip when they had shit else to do, so maybe he would bump into the old coot of a mummy there... if not, he could sure get directions.

Roead skulked at the hole in the wall. Just fucking perfect. He should have laid claim sooner. Eric was going to have the dwarves move their hairy arses into the old ruin, if any would dare go. Lot's of habitable space and whatnot. Aw, screw it anyway. The engravings on the walls down there were bloody creepy as hell.

[EDIT: Zanz, just because we do a timeskip doesn't mean we need to immediately nuke the world. I doubt we'd survive a war with an interdimensional plague. Just don't get too carried away, okay? If you do want to do something catastrophic, the timeskip should probably be at least a month, give or take 2 weeks.]

[Don't give them any hints, Hugo.  Don't give them any.  Don't worry, I'll do something somehow without breaking the mary-sue barrier when things get critical, because I know they will.]

The cramped dining hall was raucus as ever. A fitting testament to the madhouse this fortress was. He doubted anyone woukd get the joke, but more than once had considered putting a sign out on the road saying "Bedlam Assylum, 1 mi" pointing towards the fortress.

A couple tired looking miners were standing in the corner on break, gossiping, as you would expect.  He drew up to their crowd.

"..a kobold in charge?!"

"Aye, runty fellah withn a right strange outfit on. All black an shiny."

"Then what happened?"

"Then that pale creepy bloke upstairs with the freakish armor an smashin hammer came in, a pushin a cart fulla food an booze..."

"Talking about me?" Weird asked, interrupting the story.

"Bloody hell!" Yelled the story teller, coughing on his sunshine.
